My neurologist wanted to put me on it and he want me about the terrible moods and said that if you took a lot of vitamin b then it off set them. I think it want vitb ...do some research but I am sure you could control them

Thanks, Good thing I've been on high doses of vitamin B! I try to do research, but I get so confused about everything and then I feel like I just end up reading the same things over and over again. Does anyone have any good websites?

Hi Vanilla :o} First I think you need to know that you are OK, just maybe a little scared? I get that way and it leads to overwhelmed! There's a couple of things you may want to check out with your doctor and those meds. I take quite a few as well and one neurologist has me taking Prilosec every morning to offset the effects they have on my stomach. The generic is Omepramezole and it's just as good. This has helped my stomach a lot!!! I also find that even though some of these meds say to take them on an empty stomach, I started to do the following: I take my meds, then I take a big spoonful of vanilla Activia Yogurt or any other one I have. It helps coat my stomach a bit and I don't feel the effects as badly. We don't have a choice about our meds, we have to take them because they are life sustaining. You can also ask your neurologist
about a prescription vitamin called Metanx. It's a mega dose of all Vitamins B and Folic Acid which help with other things. It can be taken with other vitamins. Be sure there is an adequate amount of Vitamin A too. Just check it all out with your Doc first to be sure, he/she may want to get blood work panel done and make the appropriate recommendations from there. This is where I'm at now and I understand it well. If you want to cry, I say go ahead! Afterwards you'll probably find something to laugh about!! :o} Take care....

I took keppra when it first came out. It caused me to hullicinate. The pharmacutical company kept telling me it was not a listed symptom. I Finally had to go to the hospital as it was a reaction and I was wigging out way to much.
Long story short Keppra has some crazy powerful side effects.

I just switched to Keppra up to 500 MG x2, and sleeply all the time. but it was the topomax that made me like you are now. It was all I could do to not go into a blinding rage. I tried to get used to it but after 4 weeks I called my DR and he took me off of it and put me on zonisamidem, Hang in there, there is a cocktail out there that will work for you. It takes time, I am still looking for the right levels, my self.

I guess my point being we are all different what sets you off may work fine for someone else, just remember like other posters have said these are powerful drugs and people that don't take them don't understand what it does, to the mind, hang in there it will get better we are here for you.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I've never heard of the medication you speak of, the zonisamidem. Is . No matter what anyone says, they are not the same and research has proven they will lead to a seizure....it happened to me. So is that drug a generic for something? I don't take generics for anti seizure meds and don't recommend it I don't have a problem with the Topamax. It appears I have one with Dilantin and just found that out this week. I've just been through a variety of annoying tests....an MRI, EMG, EEG, and a TCD. I could swear the MRI led to several seizures or seizure like activity that I was able to control. The EMG was painful and took 2 weeks for me to heal from because it set off every part of me that could possibly hurt. The EEG was the one test that demonstrated the worst results. I've never had a normal EEG but this was bad. I had seizure activity during this test as well. In speaking with my doctor he explained that I could be sitting and talking to him and have no idea that some type of seizure sparks might be occurring. As of now, he is taking me off the Dilantin gradually and putting me on Vimpat. He wants me off the Dilantin and I agree.

You are so right when you say everyone is different and the right cocktail needs to be found. I've said the same. I've had epilepsy my entire life. The worst part is going through the med changes. I am controlled and consider myself luckier than most. I believe the right cocktail will be found for you too. Thank you for your words of encouragement.

Hi~ I can believe that! You have to figure that all these medications to help stop seizures are not only very powerful but they are targeted to work on your brain!! Everyone is different and reacts differently to drugs and thank goodness we have a choice. Could you imagine if we didn't?? Keppra works well for me with the exception that I tend to become a little more emotional at times. The right combo of meds is worth a million bucks!!

In my opinion, your aunt is right. I am a nurse, and can tell you that depakote is also an antidepressant. This classification of drugs almost always require tapering off. Abrupt discontinuation can cause what you are describing. Your M.D. can help you determine what is going on. Anything that manifests itself so abruptly is worth mentioning to a doctor.
