Did you have a lap done to confirm the endometriosis or is your doctor just assuming that is what it is? Either way I would do a lot of research on endometriosis before getting any hormonal treatment, for it often comes with really bad side effects, not to mention it does not help everyone (me being one). The first websites are actually for doctors that do Laparoscopic Excision and I am not saying go have it done (although I am and it has worked wonders for many) but it is just a good place for accurate endometriosis information

By all means find a different doctor!!! It makes a world of difference with the pain treated!! That is absolute BS!! I fought to have my pain treated and now I am under the care of two pain specialists along with a gyno that specializes in pelvic pain/endo, physical therapist and my regular GP who has believed in my pain since day one! You have the right to a better quality of life!!

It makes me soooo angry when I read about self rightious doctors who have absolutely no clue what us endo women go through!!!!
I've been through 3 gynos before I found my specialist. Even though I need to travel 2 hours one way to see him, it is WAY worth it!! And let me say this, I'm sure you'll agree that YOU are worth the effort!!

You should find another doctor. I went through about 10 before I found one that would help. I was on birth control to control endometriosis, but it didn't work. But it does work for some people. Good luck.

Thanks for the support to find the RIGHT doctor! I talked with them yesterday and they called in a perscription for Naproxin (AKA Aleve). I have been taking that stuff for years!! Do any of you have something that is great with the pain managment? I could discuss it with my Doctor. This is SO frustrating!!!!

The only thing that seems to help my pain even a little is plain ol tylenol. Sounds crazy, but nothing else even touches it.

i'm taking vicodin, flexeril, and motrin. vicodin is not really working anymore, but it used to work great. the flexeril ( is a new one for me) doesn't feel like its doing a whole lot and i have samples of lyrica, which worked really good on my sciatic nerve issue, but makes me feel stoned and i can't be all dopey and take care of my kids...plus it gave me the munchies...and i'd probably gain 50 pounds if i kept taking it... i'm trying to find a pain management doctor now as my primary doesn't give scripts for anything stronger then vicodin...

flexeril worked well for me. 10mg 3x a day. BUT I do have other issues besides endo. My gyno rx it because of muscle spasm in my pelvic area and it did help...and it helped me sleep. As for a pain medicaiont, I would ask for tramadol. WHen my pain frist started they gave me ponstel, naproxen, and idk what else but NONE of it helped. I always ended up in the ER because of the pain. Even then vicodin barely touched it. Tramadol works well for most people, but I will warn you for me personally after being on it for a few months I stopped taking it had withdrawls. THey were bearable, but I just wanted you to be aware of it.

Another muscle relaxer that used to help me is robaxin...im not sure if it still helps or not. Also, Savella has helped me personally, but like i said I have a variety of problems.


Just an FYI tramadol is NOT a narcotic and is NOT controlled...so therefore it really shouldn't be a big problem in asking for it.

ANother thing I wish I knew about years ago is lidocaine patches...although Idk how well they would help with endo pain. If its nerve related it may help but if it is pain from adhesions Im pretty sure it wouldnt help. BUT if you get an rx for a larger quantity of them, like 30, I would only purchase a few at first because at least for me it is about 60 $ for 30...so just a heads up.

Oh, yet another thing i wish I knew about at 14...the depo shot...it has been a mriacle for me...although yes I did gain maybe 20 lbs in a year. But I did NO exercise. I refused Lupron and the dpo shot was an alternative. i also liked the nuva ring but it cause muscle pain where it sat. I also like the patch, but not many place would rx it now.

Also, my GYNo told me if depo didnt work she would refer me to an endocrinologist, so maybe look into that? I never made it there bc the shot did help.

Yea, I've tried EVERYTHING over the counter and none of it even touched my pain. I started out with hydrocodone and moved up to oxycodone. Both work wonders on my pain. I also take a muscle relaxer which helps. I've just recently tried Tramadol in place of the muscle relaxers but it did absolutely nothing for me. I guess it depends on how bad the pain is and each individual is different. "They" say NSAIDS are suppose to work the best for endo but for me it barely works. I take 800mg of ibuprofen 3x a day as part of my pain control along with the other 2. I've tried just taking the NSAID just by itself but I ended up taking too many each day and would have caused more problems. NSAIDs can be more damaging to the body than narcotics as long as you are only taking the narcotics for pain. Dependency and addiction are 2 completely different things.
