I have the same problem, I think it is probably connected with my dyslexia but don't know for sure.

I was also badly coordinated as a kid I think this is also related.

Handwriting

yes I think its to do with dyslexia a bit- are you right handed or left alantm??? most people who are left handed really struggle with their grip.

most of the time tho bad pen grip is more to do with dyspraxia coz they can't co-ordinate it or something. do you think you might have dyspraxia???

try the triangular shaped pens and pencils- they worked like magic for me! and it stops you sliding down the pen. :)

Im right handed i can co-ordinate well i play drums alot :P

dyspraxia numbers.. i have nuber problems but only the dyslicia type ones times tables months,counting reverse ect i read in reverse some times bottom up :P

It a motor function you develope as a small child. Thats why coloring and drawing is encouraged at the toddler stage so they can develope their grip. I don't think it is related to dyslexia.

i thought the hand grip was some thing to do with dyslexia, my surpport tutor said something about how i hold the pen is why i get hand craps and cant write for long and push down hard

that might explain why in grade school they made me use this weird grip on my pencils.

it had a star on it and you had to place your thumb on the star.

the teachers flipped out when i refused to use it.

When I was younger I would press too hard and get this bump on my middle finger. I am not dyslexic though - I have dyscalculia. Don't get me started on my right and my left - hahahaha.... I still have an issue with that. Dyspraxia also is in my family - so I could have a little of that too. My son who most likely has Dyspraxia has issues tying his shoes, buttoning his clothes (putting them on), and reading/writing.

My son has a reading disability and he goes to Occupation Therapy . There he is taught how to hold a pencil and gets help with writing. He also has exercises for coordination. He has been going to OT for three months and has recently started riding a bike . There's a video on youtube called Dore with wasps I found interesting on balance exercise for Dyslexic. My son is 7 and I strongly recommend to get help for your young children as soon as possible. People don't understand how important it is to help children at a young age. He also has an Orton Gillingham reading tutor which is making a big difference .

I have the same thing with pen. I make a mess of the paper.

my granddaughter's handwriting is terrible I have never noticed her grip. But I have learned that never crawling when you are a baby is related to dyslexia and also autism. My granddaughter never crawled she started walking at 7 months old and I said all that to say this. When babies do not crawl it interfers with the fine motor skills and it can also affect gripping a pencil and handwriting. They suggest that you work with play dough and other exescises to help with this. She has an OT come to school to give her thearpy for this and it is related to the dyslexia. Hope this information is some help. musicblondes suggestion on the triangular shaped pens and pencils is interesting. Something I think I will have my granddaughter try.

I am Dyslexic and as long as I remember I had problem with keeping pen in my hand and also my handwrite is terrible . I put a lot of pressure on pen .

I can't say that I believe hand grip has to do specifically with dsylexia. My son has many "disabilities" and his hand grip has always be different. Dsylexia is only occasionally a problelm for him.

Can we accept that some people just do things differently?
