Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
I friend recently posted this on Facebook and it just made me sad...
"One of my biggest goals in life is to make sure my kids never have to wonder if they're going to mom's house or dad'd house first at the holidays"
To see things like this and all my family's and friends' pictures of their intact families always makes me sad. I am the only one IRL like me...whose family is divided. It's been 8 years, but I know things will never be the same. My own kids told me as recently as last Thanksgiving that holidays "suck" for them.
Although I am grateful for my new life and the blessings God has brought to me, THIS will always sadden my heart. At least God knows I did my best to keep this from happening. Of course, for those of you who know my story, the holidays are the worst for me because the ex has "the family" here and I don't which makes me the big loser and without my kids at the holidays. Mother's Day has become my favorite holiday.

I can try to find out what they really meant to say, instead of what they actually said, by examining their perspective or life path. But sometimes I just have to blow it off as a huge blunder, remember the blunt, tactless, and ignorant things I've said over my lifetime, and put it in the "to be forgiven" pile.
I hope you don't take it to heart, or let it damage you. You know all you've done for your family, for your children, for your marriage. When you've done all you can do, you hold your head up high, say "bite me" and carry on with respect and grace.
