I see this thread is pretty old, but would like to weigh in. As a previous poster (jmap) stated, I had the same experience with cipro. Actually I had taken it many times over the years without problem, but last summer it caused the tingling/numbess in my feet and legs, and hands, and numbness in feet. I won't take it again. I have no problems with flagyl at all, other than some extremely minor stomach discomfort. Glad to see that doxy and amox can be used, I can take those without problems.

For both my attacks I was put on both Cipro and Flagyl (metronizadole, www.drugs.com/flagyl.html ). Flagyl is a nasty drug that gave me a yeast-coated mouth the whole time I took it and for many days after I finished. The treatment is almost worse than the disease, but the combo works. It's a good idea to replenish your gut flora by taking supplementary probiotics during and after treatment with antibiotics.

I was hospitalized on Thursday and discharged this pass Sunday with a diagnosis of diverticulitis. I felt horrible and was very ill. I am on a 500 mg Cipro/500 mg Flagyl both twice a day totaling a 2000 mg of antibiotics a day. I am dizzy and nauseated, but not in pain. I am fighting two infections, diverticulitis and a kidney infection because I was dehydrated when I was admitted. I have a metallic taste in my mouth also.

Meds are making me sick, but I rather have this feeling than the horrible pain I was in.

I was diagnosed on the 29th of May and given Cipro/Flagyl. It worked fast to knock out the pain but unfortunately I had a bad reaction to the Cipro in that it made me anxious and nervous and brought on panic attacks. It worked great but not being able to sit still and feeling horrible so they switched me to Bactrim DS and still taking the Flagyl.

Never had diverticulitis in my life.
Couldn't understand why the 4 days of severe pain.
Allergic to all meds esp Cipro so Dr put me on Z-PAC and Flagyl
I sure hope this knocks it as I've had C-Diff 3 times from a abx used to treat stomach ulcer.
I sure play this works
I don't want an infection smoldering for use.
If the pain goes away does it mean i'm cured.
Sure hope someone comments.

cipro works great the flagyl causes me all kinds of problems.. I always get prescribed both however only use the cipro. I know both act on different bacteria however I just can not take the side effects of the flagyl. I am on my 8th attack this year. for the first six I used the flagyl and got no better any faster. Nothing seems to stopping the attacks. I spent the last 4 weeks feeling better eating only fruit and veggies and wheat bread. Last week I went camping, ate ground turkey under pressure, bacon of my own volition, and half a burger also of my own foolishness. So now I get two weeks of meds bed rest fluids and pain. I will never eat meat or white flour items again in my life.

I don't know how you live with so many attacks.
This is just a terrible disease.
Had a positive celiac test years ago and went gluten free for 6 years and now was just tested again. I agree with no white flour not sure about he wheat but it might be ok for you
why do we need the Flagyl anyway.

Dr just took me off Flagyl and put me on Vanco 12 b/c I had some left form D-Diff infection
Meds and I just don't agree.
the Vanco expired July 2011 but Internist told me it's OK up to a year.
have 4 boxes worth about 450 bucks.
I pray it works fast.
Hope some one else has taken this combo of Vanco and Z-pack
