What bugs you about plus sized clothes?
LadyGodiva57
I know some folks are only trying to lose a few pounds, but I'm sure their are quite a few people here in the plus size category. I'm there myself and have been for about 15 years. Do you find lack of attractive plus size clothes makes you spend less on clothes? Do you feel you would spend more if there were more attractive clothes in nice fabrics?
Here are some of my complaints:
1) I am sick of plus size clothes being made almost exclusively out of POLYESTER. I don't have so much a problem with bottoms (slacks and skirts) being made from polyester and polyester blends, But I don't like polyester for tops, especially in the spring and summer. If I find an all cotton or rayon top I like, I'll buy one of every color and I don't mind paying a fair price for them.
2) Bad cut/design. It seems that a lot plus size clothes are just made wider than misses and junior sizes instead of being designed for real plus size bodies. Tops are often too short. Pants again, just seem to be wider. They don't accommodate tummies or bottoms in the rise. I've purchased tall plus sized pants and hemmed them up just so they would come up to my waist.
3) Lack of size flexibility. We're all in this group because we're trying to lose weight or maintain a weight loss. Now I'm sure many of us have elastic waist bottoms, but how many elastic waists can you have?
If there were plus size clothes made from natural fabrics and low polyester blends that really fit, but also accommodated weight fluctuations, would you be more willing to buy them? Would you be willing to spend more for them because you'd be able to wear them longer?
I've thought about designing plus size clothes in quality fabrics that can accommodate significant weight loss without alterations. Do you think there would be a market for that?

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

Depending on your size, a lot of "normal" clothes stores have plus sized sections, also.
What bugs me about plus sized clothes... I hate paying $58 for a single shirt that isnt any type of brand name.
$55. is not bad price for comfort n style. I found avg cost being in price range of $30/40. that is also avg cost of so called mass morgority, reg sizes. Avg cost of plus size jeans is aprox $60.. I'm use to paying $40 to $100.+
Even though I am almost to my final goal weight. I still like elasist bands. such as only back waist area being elastic.
I use to buy plus size pretty/nice shirts n have then altered. Either material added to sides w waist altered to so that it showed waist, so that shirt wasn't box shape, makeing me look bigger than I was, n alterateions made me look slimmer/ giveing me waist.
It made me look like I care about my appearance n put together.
I'me not saying that I didn't ware nor wear sweats. I did n do so, only at home, n when I do a quite run to closest conveint store.
Their for gym jogging exerciseing, not out shopping/ being out n about.
Jena has provided great stores. Uncertain but it seems like lanes has call in, to place an order, n items are mailed. U may opt to check w other store to see if they have/take phone orders.
Don't give up.
also we can buy just a few items to mix n match. doing so gives us a bigger wab robe for less money. so spend to get nice cloths, to have afew items to mix n match, which is less costly to do.

I do think things are looking up-I lament being skinny when I was young
thought I was too thin!!! My mother passed away 30 years ago-she would have been so critical of me now. I have gotten some nice things through the Canadian shopping TV channel-actually, Joan Rivers has some nice clothes-same sizes 6 to 3X and styles flatter. I have the big belly problem-would like to hide that. Good Luck!!
Twice a yr (apr & oct) I go to a church flea market, and I can fill a grocery bag full of clothes (from soup to nuts lol) for $2. Beautiful clothes and some still have tags on. Some just look over good so it meets your satisfaction.
I am retired, but even if I was still working, these are wonderful clothes.
I guess whatever works for us......
Also, being unemployed for the last 3 years I also don't wear through clothes or have a need to maintain a work wardrobe either.
So there are good quality plus sized fashions out there, you just gotta find them. As a second note to your idea about starting your own line - more power to you. I have a degree in Fashion Design and Production so the work it will take to go into it and then finding a manufacturer and buyer. The other thing to consider is that plus size fashion, same as children's wear, and maternity are specialty markets that's why they can charge so much more... good luck though! Making your own clothes is both rewarding and fun.
My main complaint is that I can't afford the boutiques that cater to plus size women, and all the clothes in regular stores are just ugly. I mean, UGLY. I'm 21, I want to wear COLORS and fashionable stuff, not a dark blue burlap bag. I wish there were more boutiques here, 4 avenues across portland have closed in the last few years, and the only 2 fashion bugs I have ever seen are shutting down as well!
Maybe qvc site will have date n time of her show.
I like her fashions.
I did recently discover Maurice's has plus size up to 24 for the girl that was having issues finding cute clothes. They don't have a HUGE selection but it isn't bad and the jeans are really cute and not at all like "mom" jeans that seem to prevail in the plus size department.
My issue when I was a few sizes bigger was getting them big enough to fit around my stomach and the legs not being HUGE. I have skinner legs than most people my size and am more top heavy so the pants are always super baggy. Thankfully I have a mom who sews and can fix my dress pants and not that jeans are strecher some that problem has resolved it self. Of course because I have HUGE boobs I haven't went down much in size with my shirts but that is okay because I don't like tight ones any way.
I think if you could design clothes to fit women and price them reasonably then it should be a big seller.
