Dialysis Support Group
Dialysis is a type of renal replacement therapy which is used to provide an artificial replacement for lost kidney function due to renal failure. It is a life support treatment and does not treat any kidney diseases. Dialysis may be used for very sick patients who have suddenly lost their kidney function or for quite stable patients who have permanently lost their kidney...

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband
My husband is 77, and started dialysis two months ago. He also has a ton of medical problems - high blood pressure, emphysema, COPD, poor eyesight, balance/waking issues, uses canes/wheelchair, and other health issues. I hope your husband is able to stay as is - and not go on dialysis. It will be a pretty big life change. So whatever you can do to help him and have him eat right, take care of his kidney health the better. Because my husband has so many medical issues, dialysis is really tough on him. After dialysis, he is very tired (common side effect) and it seems everything is wrapped around 3 days a week of dialysis and doctor appointments. With dialysis, the diet you must follow gets even crazier. His fluid intake will be limited, he will have to avoid certain foods. It's not an easy road for sure!
