Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

My current doctor upped my dose last year to 5000 mg a day. Too bad she didn't check me for diabetes as it runs in the family....but it is what it is and I am fine.
I guess it's a big thing now with the vitamin D. It's amazing we all survive with being deficient of this or that....diabetes......fibro.......and other ailments...lol.
There are many different medicines to work with outside Metformin, but it appears to be the most popular.
I use to read all the bad side effects, but drove myself crazy. I am one of the lucky ones who only takes blood pressure meds and Metformin.....AND vitamin D and 5-HTP supplements.
I feel a thousand times better than I have the past few years.
I hope you find what works for you. FYI....there are no side effects of vitamin D :)
I take D3 along with my Calcium, cause I am old.

As far as your doctor prescribing things and you not know it until you pick up your other scripts, my doctor does that as well. Like you said....after he has received results of blood work prior to a coming appointment. I have multiple doctors for multiple things, and they all do that from time to time...and again...coinciding with results of blood work. That's how I was also put on vitamin B6 (200), once daily. And....an eye vitamin twice daily. All waiting for me at my Pharmacy when I went to pick up 'other meds'. I was told 'why' at my next appointments.
I was on Metformin a few years ago. I don't recall it having any negative effect. That was before I went to insulin injections.
