Went to doctor a couple days ago and was told I have diabetes. Like seriously I asked and the answer was yes. Ok so here I am. Taking Metformin twice a day and not really knowing what I am doing.


I often hear it's a good idea to take someone to the doctor with you and I can see why. I really don't remember much about the visit. I guess I was kind of dazed after hearing the news.



So I have sore fingers now from checking my sugar levels and it seems like above 200 is the normal for me before today.


Today it's mostly been around 150. Earlier today after breakfast and before lunch I got real jittery and didn't feel well. Checked my sugar and it was 89. Ate lunch and it seemed to go away. 


I honestly don't remember what my doctor said would be good range for me.


I honestly am little scared of taking the Metformin. So far have taken it as prescribed.


I feel a little better then I did yesterday. I did some research and found a ton of info about diabetes. So I can say I feel a tad bit better.


Part of me kind of feels like it was a mistake. That I don't really have diabetes but maybe that's just the denial. I don't know. I keep reading about this A1c stuff and I don't know what mine was. I had never heard it before a few days ago and don't remember what doctor said.


I go back in a few weeks and I'll have a lot more questions then and the wife will be going to help me keep things straight.

It is a scary thing to hear. Did the Dr. refer you to a diabetic clinic. That is the first thing that they should do. You have to be careful with the jittery feelings. That means your blood glucose could be too low. Always carry some candies with you. Call the diabetic society of your area. 200 is a bit high, 150 is better. Write down all the questions you have. Go to a specialist if you have to.

Go online and check to see if any of your local hospitals have a diabetic educator that you can see. There also may be some classes that you can attend, maybe even a support group. If you have a FaceBook account, join the Diabetes Strong Community group, The Diabetes Support Group for Facebook, Diabetic Warriors: A Diabetes Support Group, Diabetes Friends, or any other diabetic support groups. This will give you an avenue to ask questions or get some much-needed support from others. Hope this helps!
