Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

yup ice cream is possible if you treat yourself to the no sugar added type...
Your post caught my eye because I also got diabetes as a result of a year's binge of eating coffee ice cream - about 1/2 gallon every other day.
I should have known better since it ran in my family - but my A1C # turned out to be consistent with diabetes. It scared me and for the past 3 years I haven't touched ice cream. Now - I'm prediabetic and much happier.
I don't want to risk having any ice cream because for me it's a slippery slope.
I do have ice cream on occasion but not often at all. Even the no sugar added, low sugar, fat free and all the other ice creams I have found have a considerable amount of total carbs. Even the frozen yogurt too. So if you want ice cream you have to really plan for it. But you can have nearly anything you want within reason and with a good portion size and good planning.
But I am a sugar addict, so I have to be really careful. It doesn't take much for me to get going again on binge eating sweets. Gosh, why does food have to be so hard to handle??!!
