Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

I'm a 65 year-old married male, retired for 9 years. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes about 12 years ago. Lately, my blood sugar and A1C numbers have been going up, with no real change in diet or lifestyle. I'm down about 15 pounds, in the last 5 years, to 195 lbs. Height is 5'7"
My fasting blood sugar was 163 this morning, and two hours after dinner last night it was 159 --both the highest readings in the last week. I'm now taking Januvia, Metformin and Glimepiride.
My yearly physical at my internist showed A1C up from 6.8 in April 2011 to 8.1 in March 2012. Fasting blood sugar was 170. A year ago it was 154. So the internist put me on Januvia, 100 mg once a day.
Two weeks ago I saw her again and reported that, if anything, the Januvia appeared to be making my twice daily blood sugar checks even higher. This time she added more Glimepiride. I'm now taking 2 mg in the morning after breakfast and 1 mg after dinner.
I've always had high triglycerides, 204 to 246 in the last year. So I am taking 2000 mg of Niaspan (that's a lot) every day. Cholesterol went from 110 to 129. I take 5 mg Crestor each night.
For years, I've been taking an aspirin a day, fish oil, and multi-vitamins.
I did have Greenlight Laser surgery for my prostate BPH the end of April, so I am no longer taking 10 mg Xatral per day. I had been doing that for about 6 years.
I'm looking for your thoughts and suggestions.

Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Also, you say you haven't changed your diet or lifestyle. Maybe you could start keeping a food log to look for places you can cut some carbs. Could you up your physical activity a little?
Hope you get it figured out soon. We all know it's no fun to worry about it.
I hope you can find a doctor who gives you the appropriate treatment.
The diet log sounds good too and document any exercise wit it, even if it is just a walk around the yard.
Then there is possibility of stress or some illness you are not aware of. Anway, take care of yourself and let us know what happens, okay?
