I'm bringing my one year old cat to the vet tomorrow. I need answers. I weighed him about a month ago and he weighed 10 pounds. Now he weighs 8 pounds. He pees where he pleases. He's eating and drinking, playing, running around. I think he got stung by a bee about a month ago. He ended up jumping on my head. After that he was real skittish. He does this weird crouching when he's walking in front of me and then he lays down. He also started sitting on my lap when I'm on the toilet and sometimes he attacks me with little nibbles. I am worried that I had been giving him too many treats. I stopped giving them to him. I am praying that it's not diabetes but I don't know what else it could be. He does not go outside and there are no other pets in the house. I haven't gotten him fixed for financial reasons but plan to do that after I find out why he is losing weight. Any thoughts?

I have a 13 year old with a lot of health issues and weight loss can really be any number of things, even just needing to be spayed or neutered, but it's really hard to guess with a younger cat because some diseases are seen as 'old age diseases'

That said, it's really smart of you to be going to the vet tomorrow to get things checked out because of course you never want your cat to be feeling sick or uncomfortable.

My cat happens to have steroid-induced diabetes, and while it's a big time and financial commitment, I will say the disease is pretty manageble, and muche easier to handle than I thought it would be, especially once we got into a routine.

I think, maybe don't worry too much until the vet takes a look. Keep us updated here and let us know how things went

I hope your cat is okay GreenEyes. I know the drill with the pets and worrying about them. I’ve had a lot of issues with my pets but not this particular one. I hope the vet figures it out quickly and that it is nothing serious. Sending best thoughts to kitty.

I don't know. He's real young to have something like kidney disease which can cause weight loss and I don't know why he'd have diabetes since he seems to be at a good weight at 8 to 10 pounds. He could possibly have a thyroid issue. If the vet doesn't bring that up, maybe you could ask him to check. Hyperthyroid can cause weight loss and hyperactivity in cats. I don't know what the medical significance of a bee sting is for cats. I hope the vet can get it sorted out for you and he's ok. Try not to worry too much. I know it's hard. It's good you are taking him in. Good luck! I'd be interested to know what you find out.

My cats are all 7 or 8 pounds. He could have just been overweight for a while and lost some to normalize out. It could be the simplest answer is the right one.
Always schedule feed your cat, never free feed, and limit treats. That way you know if he's lost his appetite. How's the poop? Normal? soft? Cats should poop once a day. He's gonna be ok, and so are you. :) Hugs and pets to you and him.

Thanks everyone! I had an appointment with my nurse practitioner yesterday. She said it could be a bladder infection and parasites. He's starting to feel boney and he's crying at weird times. I haven't had him fixed and he could be stressed out. He's an indoor kitty. He's so beautiful and I know he would get stolen if I let him out. Hurry up 2:00.

Back from the vet. His behavior is because he hasn't been neutered. The vet didn't think he was underweight. He does have the beginning of a bladder infection and got an antibiotic by needle. Long story about why I haven't had him fixed yet. Paperwork going out tomorrow for a voucher to have my old vet do it for $65 as opposed to $176. Today's visit was $200

GreenEyes so glad your cat seems better, and glad the vet was able to determine what was going on. I totally get the worry and waiting games with the pets.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!
