Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I have been floating around the fringes of DS for a while. This is my first real post. I've had serious depression issues my whole life but in the last 6 months or so, it has become unbearable. I am trapped in a job I hate, managed by a boss who has favorites and scapegoats, and I am one of her scapegoats. She makes my life miserable just for fun. My bf has not had full-time work in almost 3 years (not from lack of trying) and we are barely making it. I've applied several places and had two interviews since Thanksgiving, but no offers. Where we live, there are NO jobs right now. I am totally, completely trapped. Nothing gives me any joy anymore, not my boyfriend, my dogs, writing, nothing. Some days I can barely function. My stress level is so high, I feel like I could snap at any moment, all the time.
The worst part is, I have no support system. I am not the kind of person who has a lot of friends, and the few I have are tired of hearing me. Even my sister, who is probably my closest friend, told me "Suck it up, that's life" when I was pouring my heart out one night. I was so embarrassed and angry, I haven't shared anything with her since. Now I don't want to tell anyone anything for fear I'll get that kind of reaction again. And we all know how healthy it is to bottle everything inside!
What do I do? Things really are THAT bad and I really am THAT alone. I feel like I am going crazy.

Many of you know Mr K told me to "shut your mouth" in March 2025 when we took a road trip to Alpena Michigan. Since that time, we have had lots of ups and downs but I have never intentionally hurt Mr K in anyway. And when we first started dating in 2024 he let me know, although he is an engineer by degree, he has an extremely low EQ. Overall, he is ok (not off the charts nice like other guys in...

Sad your sister did not take your feelings seriously. Maybe try talking to her again and ask her to be more understanding of your depression. I wouldn't give up on her maybe she just doesn't know how bad things are for you.

As for your family, some people don't have the patience or understanding it takes to help another through their hard times. Again, like Dixie said, give her another chance.

What you said about support system is why these types of online support groups can be so valuable and a lifeline.
To be able to share our troubles with people who can relate as opposed to the people in our "real" life who lack empathy and understanding.
And it helps when we have cheerleaders and someone to say you know what? Your boss sounds like a real a**hole! Lol
And yes it sucks that your boyfriend can't find full time work despite his efforts.
We just need someone to say. Yes I get it. It friggin sucks.
We may not have any solutions for you but you have people on your side to encourage.
I am sorry that not even your bf and dogs can lift your spirits. For me it's those things that do keep me going.
I hope maybe you can get some help. Doctor, therapy. Medications.
Or continue sharing here. It is surprising how writing it down and releasing what is on our minds and a listening ear can be therapy.
Please hang in there. Breathe. I remind myself and others the importance to breathe. Deep breaths in slowly and exhale slowly. It can help lower stress level.
SO SORRY TO HEAR ALL THIS
BUT IF YOU WISH FEEL FREE TO BEFRIEND ME [[ ;DC ]] OK,

I know I need to find some new way to help me cope with stress, but I don't know what.
i once started talking about my depressing past to the volunteer director of my local drop-in, with him YELLING at me to GET OVER IT!
he even admited that he got the post cause he was the ex-boozing buddy of the husband of the woman who started the mental health drop-in.
I told my caseworker at the time about it; my worthless caseworker sympathetically said about how maybe that was his way to deal with my pain.
last summer i bumped into the idiot volunteer director's buddy and brought up that constant yelling---with the idiot friend saying he was under a lot of stress at the time, and how that was 10 years ago. I was too stupid to curse him out, with the excuse that i still under a lot of stress myself.
so, what for YOU to do..? can always vent here. try your local mental health group, though be careful with them. And you might as well apply for social security disability right away, since that can take years to be approved.
Good luck.
(((Soft Hug,Angel)))).
As for support, DS is a wonderful place for you to receive support.
So, I read your post. I hear you. I hated my job for over 20 of the 34.75 years I worked. After I retired, I found it was about three key people whom I allowed to make me miserable. Never again. I had choices all along; I was just too chicken to take them.
I know the place where you are. I hope I will see you post again, and share your progress. Because, you see, you traded up to a whole new set of friends by coming here, and we want to see you make it!!!
No Brag, Just Fact!!!
