Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

So I've been having a lot of health challenges and since the beginning of the year, they've intensified, a cluster of symptoms, vertigo, tinnitus, and worsening migraines as well as intermittent vision loss. I've also been way more tired than usual and haven't had my typical stamina. One night in the middle of the night I woke up with my left arm cold and numb, and I was having trouble swallowing and had a pressure on the left side of my neck; I was in the emergency room for a long time, they did some tests, said I was fine, and then sent me home, but told me to follow up with a cardiologist.
So my neurologist ordered an MRI and insisted that there was a stroke on the finding (not recent) and that I see a cardiologist. Today, I finally got into the cardiologist and was pretty shocked by what he had to say. Based on everything that was presented and the data, apparently there is a syndrome with migraines that trace back to heart defects-people are born with it. And that is what he suspects is the case with me. Either that or AFib. So, he is going to narrow it down-but he seemed pretty sure that this was the case because I guess the clinical picture is: migraines and strokes, because clots go through this hole in the heart. Next, he starts talking about heart surgery to close up the hole!! Next month I am having an echocardiogram. Right now I am wearing a Holter monitor to collect data on my heart. At some point he is going to probably put me on a statin as well. I can't believe this!
Earlier this year when I was having all of these symptoms and just feeling generally terrible, I was dizzy, exhausted and my vision was going in and out sometimes, I just could not figure it out. I knew something had to be causing all of this, it couldn't just be coming out of nowhere. I put the symptoms into Google, and it came back as a type of heart disease. I thought that was so outlandish and ridiculous. Here I am six months later and it turns out that is the case!!!

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I'm glad though that you now have answers, a doctor that knows what to do and it seems at least a potential plan for when all of the data is collected
Another hug sweetie
I have 2 friends that have had heart surgery in the last couple of years and they're both doing really well
One is off all of her medication
I've been on a statin for years...Thus far there's been know problems
Prayers sent...xo
I am also one who had heart surgery on a heart lung machine (so major) with a repaired heart valve that tore (the valve of mine that tore is often repaired not replaced). The after surgery part was painful with all the tubes, my two ribs they fractured, but my heart worked normally as soon as I woke up from surgery. It is amazing what medical advances there are. (I do not tolerate statins, they all have lactose in them and I am allergic to dairy, and they make my liver area hurt.)
I also pushed aside the fact that I had sounds of my problem long long before the final valve tear and collapse of valve which was extremely painful. All too human, who wants to focus on the bad in life?
My husband had an atypical TIA last summer. They made his get an implantable heart monitor, go on statin, blood thinner, metformin for his diabetes he was ignoring, stay on med for his Crohn's, and then further testing showed he has mild liver disease so no more alcohol. He feels fine now and he also ignored his diabetes and other issues for years.
I think it is human nature to tell ourselves nothing is wrong. Probably not the wisest but I share about myself and my husband so you see this is all too human, we just sometimes bury our heads in the sand. Now that you have good cardiac information and advice, you can move forward to wellness.
Big hugs.
He is on medication and is doing well. Sometimes he has
problems but the majority of the time he is ok.
