Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Hey everyone. So I had a real stressful retail job for a while and I finally quit. Right around that time, I got admitted to a mental hospital for three weeks. I've been home for a little over a week now and I don't have a job. I have left the house a few days, but my days are spent around the house, alone, job searching or watching TV. I've never been one to sit around the house and do nothing. I've always been moving and going out and doing something; even if it's just driving or window shopping. But with my depression and anxiety, I haven't really been wanting to drive or leave the house. It just isn't like me and I really don't like it. I've been job hunting but I don't know what I'll be able to get with the holidays now. So if anybody has a suggestion or even words of encouragement, it would be very much appreciated. I'm just really down and I feel... worthless, almost? I'm not going to soak in self-pity until I find a job. I want to live and I'm not doing that right now.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Second, you may be physically alone but please know that you are not alone. The depression and anxiety will be hard to bare but eventually it will pass. I was in a similar position not too long ago and I had to literally take life one moment at a time. I had to strip away every thought about what I should be doing and focus on what I was able to do at the time.
PS lots of work at Christmas. But it's generally fixed term holiday period stuff.
One of the things that helped me when I was in between jobs is to go outside. Even if I had no motivation to do anything, just being outside walking around my house, taking in deep breaths of the cool fall air, seemed to help me. Eventually, I would go for long walks which turned into jogs which turned into runs which turned into completing a marathon. That was many years ago, of course but the idea is, I use to visualize crossing the finish line with my hands raised in victory!
Like you said, try to avoid feeling sorry for yourself, that will just make it take longer to reach your goals. Stay positive, have gratitude, even if it's something small like for the food you eat for dinner. or for the soft grass under your feet. You get the idea. These are just a few things you can do that will help you. Try it, you will be surprised!
God Bless!
