Are you diagnosed BiPolar or UniPolar Depression?
Sometimes, when I couldn't shake the oppressive feelings and thoughts I had, I would pray for others who were suffering in any way. And that would take my mind off my own problems as I prayed.
But I have had depression for other reasons as well. I used to be very strongly affected by the weather. I grew up in a northern state where it feels like winter will never end and you'll never feel the warm sun again. This caused me to be anxious every summer because I didn't want Fall and Winter to come. Just two years ago, I finally asked God to heal me of seasonal affect disorder. I chose to embrace all the seasons. And that did it. I now enjoy every season and my eyes have been opened to see beauty in each that I hadn't fully seen before. It's amazing.
If I'm affected by all the terrible things going on in the news, I shut it off and tell God (and thus remind myself) that I trust Him with our lives, with the world that we find ourselves in. I give my worries to Him because they're too big for me to carry and they're easy for Him.
If I can see that I am feeling sad purely because of hormones, I take a nap and trust that I will feel better in a day or two, or after a good night's sleep.
I hope this helps you! I will pray for your joy to return!
