Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Good morning everyone. I am overweight. So I went on a diet on January 1st. Mondays are my weigh-in days. I don't know my exact starting weight because the battery on my scale died years ago and I was never able to get the battery door open to replace it. But I used some elbow grease and got it open. Fortunately, I had bought a two-pack of batteries and so, I have a working scale. So as of last week, I had lost 5 pounds or so. I eat 5 times a day, in moderation. I have been very dedicated. So on Monday, I got on the scale and I didn't lose anything for the week. I was bummed but not devastated. Then my best friend sent me a text that sent me over the edge. She lost 7 pounds in one week. I started crying about that and then my wall came crashing down and I started crying about past and current hurts and the fact that I have so many medical issues and financial and personal struggles. Damn, now I'm crying again. I cried and slept all day on Monday and cried almost all day yesterday. I made an appointment with my therapist for tonight. My best friend doesn't know that she upset me. I told my brother and he said not to be upset because her weight loss was unheard of. The message I got when she texted me was that everything is hard for me and that it would take 7 weeks for me to lose 7 pounds. It goes deeper. I've been on a positive thinking mission since at least 1982. I am very strong. I can't tell you how many things I have had to overcome. Thank God for my beautiful Siamese cat. He gives me love and laughs every day. Thanks for letting me vent.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

7 pounds in a week is unheard of meaning it is most likely water weight and not actual weight.
The best way to loose weight is slowly. People who loose weight slowly have a much better chance of keeping it off in the long run. Most times when weight is lost quickly it's only water and once they start consuming beverages again it comes right back on.
Weight loss shouldn't be a race. It should be a team effort.
Here is an article by healthline:

12 hour days sawing up tree's and digging ditches in 100+ heat.
I gained back about 30 after it was over in water. so still need to loose some.
Not everyone can do that so take your time and just keep pushing. You will get there :) just have faith in yourself.
Its so hard to keep this going! I have had some dark times lately too but all we can do is try again the next day or even the next hour
Maybe she is the one that needs to buy some new batteries for her scale! :)
But seriously, either she read the scale wrong the first time or read it wrong this time, or she starved herself all week (which would be super unhealthy).
Losing weight is difficult. Start slow, go at your own pace. Walking will help a lot. Even just walking in your house, to start. Burn calories when you can and feel up to it. I would do things like, jog in place while I'm waiting 1 minute for the microwave to be done.... every little bit helps!
And look for all those "hidden" calories, such as using too much butter, any kind of sauces... even ketchup... sugars, and sugary drinks.
I took a good, honest look at what I was eating. For example - I found that I was putting hidden calories on "healthy" foods, such as putting butter on top of roasted vegetables. So, I had to stop doing the butter. I didn't even think about that I was doing that, lol. Drink plenty of water. You will get there!!! Take it at your own pace.
From your chronology, it doesn't sound her original message was deliberate and hopefully she can provide you with some support.
I finished a book on poker which is also a pretty good book about life. What's the goal in poker? Making good decisions. The writer is taught by a champion poker player and she learns that sometimes hands end poorly with good cards, but ultimately making smart decisions will translate to success.
