Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I'm not doing well. My family is being extremely emotionally abusive and neglectful towards me. I should be able to find a way out but I cannot. Why do I let them do this to me?
I know it's not my fault, these people are monsters. They are literally destroying me.
I called a emotional help hotline a couple of days ago and the person I talked to made me feel worse. I don't know if I have ever felt so trapped and alone as I have in these past 5 years or so. It has been hell. I don't even feel like I'm on the earth anymore but some alternative hell world.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
I suggest that you read material by Melody Beattie regarding co-dependency. Perhaps you can find some guidance and understanding in the pages of her books. People do recover from their dysfunctional lives and relationships and go on to enjoy happy, healthy lives.
Yes, I know it is scary, seemingly impossible and quite terrifying to make the changes necessary to have a happy life. I know, because I was forced by my misery to make some very drastic changes in my life. Changes that I have to maintain for the rest of my life. But I made them and my life is so much better now.
My life was miserable and hopeless not because of family relationships but because of my relationship with alcohol and drugs. When I became so miserable after I lost everything I hold dear that I was contemplating ending my life, I decided something had to change. I had to change me, my attitudes, thinking and behaviors. I used a 12 step program of living to make the necessary changes. It was scary, difficult to face truths about myself, but I did it in order to find what in me had to be changed.
And I did indeed change. No longer am I fearful, isolated, lonely, anxious, depressed with low self-esteem. I have a life now; before I was only existing in misery.
The solution is out there. But you have to want it enough to be willing to take action and make the necessary changes in your life. Because no one else will.
God Speed and I pray you find your way.
