Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
If he is abusive, then yes, you have to eliminate exposure. If not then maybe you can keep him out of any serious discussions. And let everyone know to limit his knowledge of situations, this keeps him from chiming in.
I know what you mean about the fuze, I have the same problem. But when I hear something that will set me off, I will count to ten, seriously, there are a lot of pauses in my life. I would rather not say something then regret it later, ESPECIALLY with my kids.
My dr told me about counting, it helps. Best of luck
I like the idea of counting and letting things settle in. I do that sometimes and generally it works. When the symptoms are really ramped up like they are now, nothing seems to work except completely blowing my stack and then I end up in the hospital psych wing.
I guess at one time, when I was in denial and really avoiding dealing with reality, I could say there were some good times. Since really understanding that PTSD is an illness of avoidance, I have stepped head on into my treatment. I will always have these symptoms and I can learn to manage them. I can't have people around me that push me like that though. There are no good times worth losing my mind over! And at this point, I've about lost it. I have no weapons anymore as they were taken away and really, I don't want to die. I just want to be left to live my life without constant interference.
