Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
You are not a failure. The economy is a failure, you are not. You are a lovely man who is hurting badly.

I went to dinner with my mom and older brother, which was nice, but I still felt so sad and depressed. I feel so useless. I don't have a job to go to or make any money. I just want to be able to smile and be even a little bit happy again. I try to be positive but it's so hard when everything seems so uncertain and hopeless to me now.
I have to go to my Uncle's funeral tomorrow morning. I hope I can wake up in time. That's one more thing that has made me sad. He was a very good man and it hurts me that he had to go.
I guess I will just try to relax and go to bed now. I wish I had someone to talk to tonight, but I can't find anyone. I hope tomorrow will be a better day.
Just to add a thought I forgot last time. The reason I asked about the feeling during the day.
You see what you describe sounds like diurnal mood variation (DMV), which, in English simply means your mood varies during the day. Mostly from worst in the morning and best very late at night but it works the other way, as you describe, also.
I recall when my doc told me the name of it. It did help as I knew to expect it and as such it was easier to deal with. Mine was way worst in the morning and it got so much better the later I stayed up. Therefore I found it tough to go to bed at all as I knew what the next day would bring.
It's a normal symptom of depression and relieves itself as depression itself is eased and treated. I would suggest to you that, on it's own, yes it's scary, but it is predictable and verifies what's wrong.
Be assured it lifts as you are being treated and then you don't even recall it was there. You get reminded of it, like I did when I read your post but it brings no fear these days, just a memory.
I felt a little better today, even though I had to go to the funeral. It was very emotional, but I got to see a lot of family that I haven't seen in quite some time. I even gave and received a couple of hugs, which was nice.
Only problem is now I have a cold and I don't feel well at all. I'm going to try to get some sleep now and try to get feeling better. Thanks again and talk to you soon.
I too have been betrayed and have a deep mistrust of most people.
Just wanted you to know that I can relate and that someone out there wishes the best for you. also: I guess that if it is possible to be a good person yourself (one that won't betray others) then it's possible to find others out there like yourself. Maybe that's a nice thought to keep in mind.
One thing I've learned is that Depression can be a beast!!! I hope I can get through this. It's such a tough time. I'm trying to stay as positive as I can.
I've applied for a job as a tutor at the local college. I was told that I was pretty much guaranteed the job, but now I'm not sure if they have the funding to hire me. This brought on the bad depression because I was looking forward to this new job and opportunity. I worked really hard at finishing all of the paperwork, background check, fingerprints, etc. Now it might all be for nothing. All I can do is hope for the best.
Today I have to get up, get out, and do something. Anything. I can't be stuck in bed all day being depressed, but it's so hard. I'm going to try my best.
I just read through all of the posts here. You seem like you are doing all of the right things. I just spoke to a friend yesterday and the subject of her divorce came up. She told me it took her three years to feel more like herself. It sounds like the divorce and job loss have been completely overwhelming. I think that almost anyone would feel depressed with what you have been through. Mornings tend to be hard for people who are depressed, this is normal too. You have had so many replies to your post...such an outpouring of support. It sounds like you have support at home too. You will come out on the other side of this.
As far as the tutoring job---funding for any position is so limited right now---the economy! Hang in there and this or another job will come through. It's great having you here on DS
Sending Healing Thoughts your way. Mame
