Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Where I live the winters are gorgeous, and the summers are oppressive and horrid.
I almost literally hibernate from May to 1st October. I keep my place dark, blinds drawn because they reflect heat way from the windows, and the a/c on, of course.
about 7 minutes in the sun is all it takes here to burn your skin.
anyway, yeah, I can relate to summer seasonal affective disorder.
January 31 is the anniversary of his passing on, and, every year since January 31, 2007, it's been a horrid time, when I feel like I'm withdrawing from PTSD (I watched him die of sepsis following surgery to remove a tumor in his colon) and the aftershocks hit me in like a ton of bricks in the form of anxiety attacks that feel like earthquakes in my heart...tingling in the wrists, mind racing, can't breathe...I plan to keep myself very sedated this holiday, with wine and Valerian. Hopefully I'll sleep through most of the festivities.
But today I realized that I'm feeling the symptoms again because August is Texas' hottest month. So despite the heat, I realize that I have to spend time outside during the morning in order to get sun but not boil to death. I also picked up a vitamin d supplement today. Go out in the mornings when it is cooler. Get up earlier if you have to. I'm setting my alarm for 7 (not working right now so no set schedule) and going to take my dog to the park in the mornings.
