Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I am in the states--in California. I went to school with a young man who enacted a brutal crime against two young girls. I used to feel sorry for this boy because he was picked on a lot. I even stopped a mob from beating him up one night.
He had a crush on a girl, and I guess she was kind to him, but not interested in anything "romantic". One day he turned up at her house before she got home from her afternoon job. He found her little sister and her little sister's friend at the home. He blugeoned them and sodomized them with a hammer. He was 15 and the girls were 10. I believe they tried him in court as an adult so they could give him a long sentence.
I have thought about him from time to time. His life is suspended, in a lot of ways, at the age of 15. While I have gone on with my life, twenty-four years have passed and I have experienced relationships, and travel and education and parenting. And he has sat there in a cell. But two other young lives were suspended...Two others have also not experienced life--of any sort--over the last 24 years.
I don't have a vengeful spirit, but I would not ever want that boy--who is now a man--back out on the streets.
I am horrified that the bullying he endured--and I know it went on for most of his life--may have played a part in what he did. That said, what he did was monstrous and inconceivable to most human beings.
I just can't imagine allowing people who have committed such crimes to dwell among unsuspecting people.
