Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I'm sorry you are going through a tough time right now. Being a parent isn't something that I could imagine doing let alone do. You are so brave and strong to continue to take care of your responsibilities even though you want to run away. It's terrible that you are underappreciated. I want you to know that you are worth more than how they are treating you and when you move on and have a better life, all this is going to seem small. I'm here if you want to talk! (I know how you feel about hating your self, I feel that way a lot. Sometimes it helps me to think about all the good things I do and all the good I am going to do and it takes the self-hating pressure off.)
Do you have a place where you do feel supported? Do you have a group of friends that you could go out with or another group to be a part of? At one point I just started going to a book club. Our relationships weren't particularly close, but they listened to what I had to say, they included me, and I felt like a part. That one group did so much for me in helping me to not dislike myself and in showing me that I do have something to offer.
Also, can you listen to positive music or find positive, encouraging messages that you can write down and place around your house so you can see them? I know it doesn't sound like much, but I found that when I was in a negative space in my head, I could learn to leave the negative behind if I had positive messages to turn to, It was when I repeated the negative to myself all of the time that I struggled the most. I hope this is an encouragement to you. I hope you can come up with some ideas that fit you and your situation so that you can get what you need to keep going. You are important and worth all the effort. And so are your children. Hugs for you.
First of all, you are a Mom and your children need you to be healthy and rested. You are also holding down a job which means that you are doing TWO FULL TIME JOBS---parenting and working outside the home. I hope you can acknowledge that you have a lot on your plate.
Sit back, sip on some water or other refreshing drink, relax and think about what is making you feel this frustrated right now. Make a list of all the things that are making you feel overwhelmed. How have you handled this successfully before? What worked? What DIDN'T work?
You feel underappreciated at work. What does that mean? No one recognizing all that you do? (Maybe they are but haven't said it lately.)
Not enough money for the work that you put in? (How about putting in for a raise, complete with your needs listed and your commitment to the company?)
Need a little time to yourself? Do you have a friend or relative that can be trusted with your children while you go out for an hour or two, doing something you love?
These are just ideas that hopefully give YOU some ideas.
I am a single Mom, also working a lot of hours while still raising children. It's tough! Sometimes you feel more like a part of a machine than a human being. For me, singing to Jesus while I"m driving to and from work, thinking of everything I'm thankful for and then thanking Him for it is a HUGE stress reliever for me. It's not the goal, of course---worshipping God is; but it's a wonderful side effect!
I have also learned to have healthy boundaries. I can only be stretched so far, so I put safe boundaries around what I can and will do and what I cannot take responsibility for. This helps at work and especially at home.
I will pray for relief for you.
