Question for you my friends. Yet again here in Utah we had another police chase and two innocent victims died in the occurence.
It was a felony home burglary by some gang members with lengthy criminal records. The driver was 17 and possibly dui. The chase only lasted a couple of minutes and not at real high speeds. The driver ran a red light and hit two young men that died instantly. The suspects are out of the hospital and not hurt ofcourse. (The young dead mens car was demolished and you couldnt even tell what kind it was).
The parents of the two young men that were killed are so forgiving and said they are sure these two men did not mean to kill their sons. The uncle of the gangbanger said that he was so sorry but blamed it on the police.
This event has made me very very sad. I am torn about what I think about it. Sooooooo when do you think it is neccessary for police to chase suspects?

One basic "law" of criminals is that they don't want to get caught. Lying, running, etc, there are many things they will do to avoid it. This is a fact of life.
Here in Los Angeles we have TV shows (gotta love cable) that specialize in things like police chases. They SHOULD (IMO) interview the suspects who are caught and ask them why they run. The few times they have the answer is always the same; they hyper focus on getting away, and nothing else matters to them at the moment.
I agree, harsher mandatory sentences are needed. It is the SUSPECT who is responsible for the accidents, not the police.
