I didn't go to a shelter to get mine, but I went to meet her, breeders, and the breeders parents. In fact, my breeders wouldn't sell to anyone they didn't meet!!

She was the one that interested in me. Other pups were more interested in other stuff . . . the breeder said they wouldn't be as affectionate as the one interested in me. Of course some people want that in a German Shepherd . . . which PS is why I went to a breeder.

I wanted one with a good temperment and a known history of health in the family.

puppys are great for depression. I have 3 and I got them everytime I was in an episode with my depression. they truly do help. they are my best friends. good luck and congrats.

thanks everyone- i've decided to put a posting of my own on some sites and see if i can find some breeders closer to my area who are willing to let me come over or meet me somewhere to look at the pups and choose the one i want- really still lovin the doxle , but daschunds are just so friggin irresistible ! atleast its only between two different ones - i looked at all other types of dogs and thats the only ones i found appealing, i need a dog that is fun to be around and yet one that doesn't have tons of long hair that would be high maintenance- going back to what Testy said about the Shelter- been there done that- and its not been good for me- always got stuck with a dog that yes i loved and took care of til the end of their lives- but also one i really didn't want- always longed for a lil cuddly daschund or now that i've seen them a doxle to hold... once again thanks for the advice and yep gonna be sensible and see the pups and make sure they are loveable as well as cute and healthy before i make a real decision on getting one... WTF! I am shocked at you hun.

You are sounding self centred to me in this. You don't ever adopt a dog that you don't want! There are thousands of doggies in dozens upon dozens of shelters online that you can check out.

Heck! What do you want? A pup to love or a status symbol? I always thought I wanted a certain type of cat (orange tabby - My Charlie who passed away before I adopted Tipper, was an orange tabby even) but the moment I saw Tipper in the shelter, it was love at first sight on both our parts, and the happiest moment of our lives. I wouldn't ever trade or give him up for the world! I love him so much I dread that one day, he will pass away.

Please stop thinking such only or nothing thoughts! You are limiting yourself to only a few breeds, when your perfect companion may be another breed altogether!

They are pretty but my choice is the peekapoo. My mom had one and she died with cancer and I inherited Prissy. She was precious. Very loving and loyal and clean and don't get to big. The only thing is cutting their hair. It would be hard to decide. Good luck, Peggy

bargaining with the woman for the lil black and tan fellow- and also searching shelters for daschund pups- if anyone on here knows of anyone who has or breeds them - let me know and i'd appreciate it... yeah decided against peekapoo cause of price and maintanence.... also i was put on the list for a doxle when the spring litter arrives yay ! gonna have a puppy of my very own to love ! yep i'm silly...

and apparently my household is having dog fever my sis is traveling to a shelter in indiana to get a catahoula cur which she has wanted ever since she was little- and she can't decide if she should name him luke , merle , or dax ?....

update still searching for my pup- but my sis went to pick her's up today and i've posted a picture of him- so far she has named him Riley - she changes her mind every 5 mins- so for all those who care to see- he is an adorable blue eyed catahoula leopard pup ... enjoy the pic- can't wait til he gets here so we can play !

We don't have those dogs here, i read about the breed(Catahoula Leopard), damn scary if not trained and in the wrong hands, definitely not my cup of tea.
I would never rescue from a shelter again, the exaggerations, the lies, the cover ups, i bought someone elses problem and i'm stuck with it.

Your sister has brought a pet into the household. You need to consider the sex and temperament of her dog when you choose your dog. Doxies are known to stand their ground . I would not buy from a breeder unless you speak to previous buyers. I agree with Testy. Shelters are good and are different from Rescue Groups. I really hope you don't rush your choice.
My neighbor had a very bad experience with a breeder. Her pom turned out to be a "genetic" dog. When she tried to locate the breeder (about a year later) the women was long gone.
