Snapping turtle will decimate the fish population, unfortunately...two words: electric fence!

Oh boy Y'vonn I have been on both sides of this fence,,,
first U are talking to the owners---GOOD
On a hot summers day who wouldn't jump in some water......
this is a coin flip as to how the owners take care of their dog's, if they can control them fine if not well that part gets expencive for them.....

Hay ever think of making them(owners) a fish pie??????? just kid'n, hell cop up them coi into fish sticks and fry them with guts and scales and invite the dogs owners over for some brunch... oh shit I'm getting nasty... got2go.................

I agree with all who say that it is correct and proper to politely tell your neighbors what their pooches have been up to. You have a right to keep the things on your property the way you like them, without them ever being disturbed. (Unless by Mother Nature, of course, we can handle her, too!!!) Talk to them hun. Take over a plate of fish sticks, and say... "Welcome to the neighborhood. Your dogs killed my fish, so the very least I can do is share them with you!"

Honesty is the best policy hon. You are kind an daring and your neighbors will see this when you talk to them about their dog. Just explain to them what the dog is doing and ask them if they could please try to keep an eye out. Hugs hon.

a stray cat that used to hang out at my house killed my neighbors duck. the neighbor came over to the house. he was angry and upset (near tears) but kept a level calmness about him as he spoke to me and i felt like crap but tried to make sure that my cats did not bother his ducks anymore...sorry you! sad about your fish.

There are a couple of easy things to do. First your neighbor could get a shock collar for their dogs. It is a thing that goes around their neck. Then there is a wire that is burried (not deep) that sends out a signal. If the dogs get too close, ZAP. Nothing dangerous, but a good reminder. Dogs learn, and after a couple of zaps they will stay away.

The second is on you. Electric fences to repell dogs are pretty easy to set up. I have done it around my garden for years. Right after my lovable back yard guardians took a romp all over my veggies! Same basic thing, a couple of zaps and they learn that the fence is not to be messed with. You can make it low enough so that people can step over it (while not touching the fence). Most dogs do not even think about jumping a low fence.

It stinks when someone upsets your calm. It sounds like a short chat with them will be enough. They'll probably be mortified when they hear what's happened. Either that, or put out some dog-treats laced with laxative.
(You know I'm kidding, right?)

I wish you were my neighbour. Keep politely telling them of the trouble. The last thing you need is confrontation.

Can you place chicken wire over the pond until the fence is in place. I know it another expense but no angst is better.
