Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

What do you do when people won't take no for an answer. I am trying to get rid of abusive people in my life and they keep trying and trying and trying.
I was in no contact with my family for eight years. Against everyone's advice I went and visited them over christmas. Now I can't get rid of them. They are physically abusive. Cops have been invovlved. I put in an application for an apartment just the other day and my therapist told me just to say no to more hangouts. Every time I see them it sets me back.
I said no to the next hangout but they keep asking. Keep proposing different dates. It is starting to scare me. My dad has been randomly showing up here. I want them out of my life.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

They probably got the wrong idea and think you are going to be around them now and back in their lives. This is not your fault. We can't control what other people think.
Stand your ground. Say No. Don't give any kind of false hope, such as saying We'll see... or.. Maybe another time.... etc. Flat out say No. Don't have to give any reasons. And stick to it.
Consistency and sticking to your boundaries will be key here.
If your Dad shows up unannounced, don't open the door.
I'm sorry for this situation you're going through. It's a tough one and I wish you luck in this.
Was there a reason that you spent time with them at Christmas?
This is hurting you and it seems that it is all or nothing right?
I think that we all want to have a family, but we can't all have
contact with our families without getting hurt
In your case, it seems like it's a "no contact" situation.
I am only sporadically on DS, so I don't know you. Do you need
to grieve the loss of having a loving family?
