Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
So how about putting some thought into baking a pie for supper, or cleaning out the kitchen cabinets, or arranging a vase of flowers, or drawing a picture of your favourite things and plan where to hang it when it's framed? Such like little things are your baby steps to a brand new happier you.
You can choose to call these things "chores" if you wish, or call them "accomplishments" depending on how serious you are about wanting to find inner happiness and love. You have to love yourself first before you can love others and be loved in return and, as sad as it may sound, happiness and love don't fall out of the sky into your lap. They are not handed out in lucky packets - they have to be earned. The way forward isn't always smooth and flowery, but if you try... really try hard ... to do what you know is best for you then you WILL succeed. And it's all for FREE ... it's up to you accept the challenge or reject it.
High fives, girl, and get cracking then. Good luck and please let's know how you are getting along.
But not all days are good ones, especially if you are left alone while everyone else is at work. I had those miz days too and, for me, I found comfort in writing happy thoughts into simple rhymes or stories. Sounds silly, I know, but they always made me smile and lifted my mood. I kept my bits of poetry in a shoebox decorated with sunflower stickers. This was My Place, My Flower Box, My Zone and when I was feeling down or ickie, I often shuffled through my sunflowers to find a feel-good poem I had written.
But what works for one person doesn't always work for another and if I have offended you in any way or misunderstood your post, then I apologise. No harm was intended. Again, I send you high fives and best wishes.
Yeah I guess you triggered me but I knew you probably didn't intent anything bad. Hugs
So when I said I'm no stranger to depression, anxiety and despair I meant every word - I've been there, done that and got the T-shirt to prove it. But the longer I sat brooding through those miserable days after Den's death, the more the ghosts of my past invaded my space until I could barely get out of bed. That's when I fought back and said "Enough is enough!" I have weeds to pull, a pullover to knit for my grandchild, a larder to stock with wholesome food and and a visit to the beauty parlour. I had lost 10kg and looked 20 yrs older than my 70.
I has grown a pair of big brass balls - Den must have been back-seat driving as he usually did and I woke one morning with the wonderful idea to release my daughter's inheritance (my house) from his estate. People said I was out of my tree, but at the time Rosie and her family were in dire need of a place to call home and a fresh start, and I needed to toss the burden of this house off my shoulders to free up some of my life to enjoy in relative happiness and peace. Pure Karma.
When I read of people who have everything to live for, are young, energetic, intelligent and worthy, I am driven to urge them to find happiness in their lives before their opportunities slip away.
We have just one life and we've got to make the best of what we've got. I didn't ask for this dreaded disease - just drew the short straw - but I can't go back to change things. Once my train left the station it's express all the way to the rainbow. How long now, who knows?
If you value your life and want to get the most out of it, please fill your lonely days with happy thoughts and who knows, perhaps one day I'll hear your lyrics on my little radio. Wishing you strength and courage to reach your dreams.
Many warm ((((hugs))))) with sprinkles on top.
