Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Even if this economy was booming, I'd still have a very difficult time getting a job. I have too much education, few job skills, few social connections (I don't apply for jobs that require references as I don't have anyone to put down. Unfortunately, even Walmart ask for them on their online application and you can't get pass that part blank), little work experience, too old (late 30's) and been unemployed too long (5 years). Now with Obama being re-elected, those chances are even smaller. Add to that I don't like let alone want to see the society he think the US should be. So, there's little, if not no future for me. There's only a few things I can do.
One of the few things I could do I did today. I removed myself from the organ donor registry. I'm tired of helping people and not getting anything in return, even if it's in death. Yes, a part of me thought, "If I have no future, than no else can." I guess that part is a cold hearted. Anyways, the ways things are with me, my organs would likely be found useless for anyone. It saves them the trouble of surgery. A very small, if not insignificant, sense of power.
Maybe if I was born with the ability to feel some happiness. If everything went my way, all it would be is lifting some of the darkness. A job equals money equals less stress. I don't want to change the world or make a difference. I just wanted less stress, a roof over my head and maybe something to eat. Well, that's gone. So, where as I would have let you that extra dollar in the supermarket, well too bad. I'm not going to say "good luck with that" because I don't want that for that person if I don't have any.
I guess I'll be the self-centered, selfish, arrogant and narcissistic (I was actually shy, introverted, lacked social skills, did things only when no one was looking and, of course, depressed) person everyone thought I was and am.

Many of you know Mr K told me to "shut your mouth" in March 2025 when we took a road trip to Alpena Michigan. Since that time, we have had lots of ups and downs but I have never intentionally hurt Mr K in anyway. And when we first started dating in 2024 he let me know, although he is an engineer by degree, he has an extremely low EQ. Overall, he is ok (not off the charts nice like other guys in...

This is the rede of the Fabian Socialist:
"From each according to his ability, to each, according to his need".
It only works as long as there are more with ability than need. We are now going to witness in our own country how a people will eat themselves. Atlas has shrugged. The People have spoken.
But don't give up just yet. Your future isn't as bleak as you think.
Regardless of who was elected, economic analysts say we will see 10-12 million jobs created in the next four years.

The economy is on the upswing, so your age, lack of work experience and references will be less important. Like BlueYonder says, there are ex-cons who can get jobs, and I know people twice your age who've been able to get a job in this economy. Volunteer work is a great way to get references, work your own hours, and get job skills. Yes, it's helping other people, but that's just an "unfortunate" side effect for you. ;) You'll be doing it for yourself, and that should be a plus.
And what's with the questions? "Do you believe people cheat on their taxes?" "Are you more or less a leader?" "Are you more or less a follower?" How about "Do you believe people will answer these questions honestly?" Do they really think people will sabotage themselves? Well, they're right, because I did answer them honestly. Am I a leader,? No, because I don't want the responsibility. Am I follower? No, because I do what I agree with. I didn't give those explanations as they were only "yes" and "no" questions, but I would have if given the opportunity.
That's why the fake reference won't work for me. I've been told by many people, such as my father, that I'm too honest. I can lie and get away with it, but I'm not comfortable with it. This might be why I'm bad at interviews. If I have to lie for someone, I tell them the owe me BIG and no I won't forget it....EVER. So, don't ask unless you want me to pester you, I tell them.
As for volunteering opportunities, they're far and few between. Most are in the city, 30 minutes away. The local library got rid of theirs to give their workers more hours due to budget cuts. Also, most involved interacting with people. It seems the more time, the higher you move up, the less interaction. But 6 months?!? If I go shopping, I tell you to stay in the car because I know what I want and don't want to be there any longer than I need to.
I'm going into kidney failure and think the future looks really freakin bleak sometimes. Cause yeah I'm going to spend 3 days a week strapped to a machine, feeling sick as hell.
So I try not to think about the future. I spend my energy just trying to have an okay day. I used to day all I really wanted from life was to be happy. I've long since lowered my expectation to I want to be okay.
After all really we just need to get through the day. And if we're lucky maybe there will even be an enjoyable moment. I hope things turn around for you. Hugs Kelley
