Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
So, hi. After feeling pretty low for a month, then progressively worse this past week, I finally tried telling my counselor everything today. They try to steer clear from making any kind of test or diagnosis which is ok, since I'm there to talk and feel better. But today I guess i've cracked so to speak. They gave me a depression test and apparantly 24/27 is some cause for concern, they even mentioned possibly seeking a family doctor if I don't improve in 2-3 weeks. I haven't been on antidepressants since 2011, and I know there's a lot I can do to try and feel better. The problem is that I've lost most of my motivation, to the point where I can't even sit thru one show on netflix. The more I try to push myself, the more tired and cranky I get. I'm not only tired physically and mentally, but I'm embarrassed and sad. I don't have anyone to talk to, and my counselor is in such high demand that today I was told to seek someone else if I needed to before my next session with her (a month from now). My SH desire came back, and I tried to combat it with physical activity except I get anxious when thinking about going to the gym. But I'm not motivated enough yet to try anything at home. I feel like I've checked out mentally (NOT a end of life way) but just that I have no motivation to even think about motivation. I just feel lost. So, I came here. Maybe for support or friendship? I'm not sure of anything anymore, I'm just going with the flow.

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

Take care and hope that things start to look up for you.
I remember the stress test I did online, part of depression testing, where I think 100 points for answering life event stress issues was bad, 150 was very bad, and 200 was extremely bad. I scored 600.
So yeah, if that's similar, then I remember the state. pretty extreme.
My suggestions would be:
1. don't try to motivate yourself to go to the gym in this state. that's jut a recipe for feeling like a failure.
2. don't do anything you think you might fail at. your ego probably can't take it anyway. :D
3. go to the GP and get a little something. Give it a little time to work.
4. See if you can get a counsellor that can talk to you once a week. Once a month? I wouldn't have survived!
Talk on here. Friend me. :) One way or another we can get through this.
Glad you came to this site & do enjoy your time here!
I'll tell you this: you are a person of action. Few there are that recognize when it's a good time to open up with their therapist. The sooner you direct attention to those feelings of tiredness & crankiness the more advantage you have over gaining victory over the problems. Lately, we've all grown weary with recent news of catastrophic global challenges. Have you considered that this episode in your life is directing you toward spiritual relief? I ask this because many don't understand how important it is to affirm assurance in the good health of a guiding soul-felt power within. Do you pray very often? Many moments spent in meditation can bring out the spirit of mental confidence & peace. However you decide to handle your circumstances, please keep in mind that, with an open mind, you may find that spiritual rebirth is the answer for your needs; that Higher Power, which is really found in a godly life. I send you Philippians 4:13 (for the sake of strength).
Sending a shoulder to lean on ¯\♥‿♥_(ツ)_/¯

Oh, and I try to make my bed every morning because no matter how bad my day was, I accomplished something. Sounds cheesy....but it gives me the tiniest boost of self worth. Which can build up and go a long way.
I really do hope this community helps both of us in time.
