my very dear friend just killed himself. he suffocated himself with a bag.
i found out through a phone call about 4 hours ago.
he suffered from severe depression his whole life.
i had moved away from him about 5 months ago. he was definitely my best friend at my former residence. he was about 50. i'm 38.
i heard he seemed happy during the last few days and was telling everyone that he loved them-- clearly he was resolved about his action. and was saying goodbye.
i always made a big effort to support him while he was alive, and now that fact is so important to me. I understand that i had moved away, so i was not a part of his life anymore, but goddamn how i wish he had given me the opportunity to talk him out of it. i would have done just about anything for him.
he was definitely the most generous person i've known. he was so kind. he was always unhappy though, wasn't close to his bad family, and did suffer clinical depression.
Wow, the pain from this comes in waves. damn man. damn.
