While the cause may be admirable, and your hearts are in the right place; we ask that members not request donations or solicit funds from or for other members.
While there may be every indication that this is a legitimate case of a member in need, we've had problems in the past where scam artists would come on to DS soliciting funds from other members.
I hope you all can understand that we're doing our best to look out for the well-being of all the members on DS.

And, like Jesse said, a polished criminal could create an account here, spend enough time to get "known" and then drop something like this. Worse, they could do it in the name of a REAL person here who is going through very hard times.
There are so very many people here who are in need, and much of it is related to money. Sigh. I agree, the line needs to be drawn at this point.
There is a shelter in my community that takes people in. Not only do they provide food clothing and shelter, but they complete the picture with counseling and job training. That is a much better package, and we may be much better off if we can provide links to these types of services for our members who are truly in need.
