Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

This is an excerpt from an article. I know this can turn into a controversial subject here on DS. But please, don't argue! Everybody has their beliefs. Mine? I wish it was finally legalized here in the U.S. I know what it can do for depression! It makes people happy!

JR: In your book, Marihuana, The Forbidden Medicine, there are many references to the medicinal uses of cannabis. What are some of the medical problems you have seen medicinal cannabis help?
Dr G: The most common cancer treatment in the last couple of decades is with the cancer chemotherapeutic substances. A big problem with some of these is the severe nausea and vomiting. It is the kind of nausea that anybody who has not experienced it can only imagine. It is very important that this nausea be defeated so patients can be reasonably comfortable with this treatment. As I have mentioned, there are conventional drugs available; it is just that cannabis is often the best.
Then there is glaucoma which is a disorder of increased intraocular pressure in the eyes. If that pressure is not brought down, glaucoma can eventually lead to blindness. There are conventional medicines that work pretty well; but, for some people, cannabis works better and with fewer side-effects.
Epilepsy is a disorder which has been treated by cannabis for centuries. About 25 per cent of people in the US who have various forms of epilepsy don't get good relief from the conventional medicines. Many of them do get relief from one of the oldest anti-epileptic medicines, cannabis.
Multiple sclerosis affects more than two million people in the US, and one of its distressing symptoms is muscle spasm. It is very painful. Anybody who has had a cramp while swimming will know what muscle spasm pain is all about. Cannabis is very effective for the muscle spasms of not only multiple sclerosis but also of paraplegia and quadriplegia.
Furthermore, cannabis helps people with MS who may have trouble controlling their bladders. Cannabis is very helpful in reducing this kind of loss of control. Not long ago I was in London doing a TV debate on the topic of medicinal cannabis use. There was a woman in the audience who said she had come down from Leeds, two-and-a-half hours on the train, to be in the television audience. She has MS. The part that was so distressing for her was the social embarrassment of losing control over her bladder. Well, she said cannabis has restored her bladder control and she could now make the two-and-a-half-hour trip from Leeds with no trouble.
Cannabis has been used for centuries in the treatment of various kinds of chronic pain. It was used on the battlefields of the Civil War as an analgesic medicine until morphine displaced it. Morphine was much quicker for the pain and a much more powerful pain-reliever than cannabis. Cannabis cannot defeat very powerful pain. The price of using morphine was that many people suffered from what was then called "soldier's disease", which was addiction to morphine.
Cannabis is very useful in the treatment of migraine headaches. Sir William Osler, in his last textbook on medicine, describes cannabis as the best single medicine for the treatment of the pain of migraine.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I'm grateful to live in a northern California county that supports the individual's personal right to grow and utilize medicinal pot.
Namaste.

Alcohol doesn't drive and kill people either but the driver who is intoxicated is charged with the crime while drinking and driving and using the car as a weapon.
Americans need to turn towards God and away from the evils of drink and drugs... before it is too late... Wake up Americans our country is dieing English is no longer the language of our country... When my grandparents came here they had to learn english to survive, and they did. They worked hard, educated their children to better them - to give their children an advantage to get ahead. They disciplined their children and expected the best from them.
Now for my boyfriend. He smokes daily. He runs his own company, (plumber) he does plumbing and heating in multi million dollar houses with no problems. He does amazing work, because when he's stoned he's relaxed, and takes his time and does beautiful work. He is always in a good mood, always has tons of energy, and NEVER a "bum" He also drinks, when he drinks he always wants to argue, has 2 drinks and passes out cold. With pot he is able to control his back pain (broke his back) drinking inflames it. He has quit pot a couple times with no probs! Legalize it!
I'm very specifically speaking to the single issue at hand: use and legalization of pot. And I will say again, just because a person abuses a good thing or is allergic to a good thing, doesn't make that thing automatically bad for everyone - only for that person.
I could make similar arguments with regard to pretty much every other issue that has been raised here that muddies the waters, dilutes the discussion, and detracts from the specific topic at hand.
Too often, we are too quick with knee-jerk reactions. Many folks like to draw parallels between issues that don't necessarily or automatically have relationship to each other.
Pot has been shown to have many therapeutic benefits and those studies have merit. Even so, that doesn't mean it's going to benefit every persn who tries it.
Nor do studies showing benefits of pot automatically mean there are no negatives - as I already said, if it's misused, that's definitely not a good thing in my opinion.
I don't abuse weed. In fact, I rarely smoke it. Yet I like having that option when my pain is particularly bad and none of the chemical substances prescribed for me address that pain.
Once in a while, it's nice to have the option to use an organic substance that, so far, has not been shown to do me any more harm that all these chemicals I take each day under doctor's orders.
To be honest, I might rather be addicted to weed than to some of these chemicals if I have the option (assuming there is credible evidence that pot is addictive).
In no way am I advocating that everyone run out and buy and sell weed to their heart's content, nor do I advocate the indescriminate use of pot. I do advocate the responsible cultivation and use of weed for personal and medicak purposes, and I'm grateful I'm afforded that freedom of choice where I live.
Again, having expressed this opinion, it is NOT the same as advocating ANYHING else. I am simply addressing this one single topic. Period.
I appreciate being heard without anyone assuming i' talking about anything else, or that I'm impling similar arguments for or against anything else.
Namaste.

Many 'Spiritual' people, through the ages, have smoked pot, along with some other natural substances, to enable them to go into another realm for answers they were seeking. It never killed the Indians, or the Shamans. But the chemicals in today's medicines are horrendous, and all they do is try to copy the effects of natural plants and other things growing in nature.
Alcohol drinkers have killed so many, yet alcohol is legal. Go figure, a bar on every corner and a cop at the red light pulling you over if you drink more than one drink in one hour. Yep, our system is so intellegent it makes me shiver just thinking about it.
