Lately I've noticed that women seem to be getting worse and worse at doing their make up - tackier and tackier. I can't stand make up in the first place, haven't worn it myself since high school (except for at a couple weddings in which I was a bridesmaid, but I wouldn't let them put a lot on lol). Some make up can look ok - like a bit of foundation or powder that is THE RIGHT TONE, or some mascara and natural/neutral coloured shadow... bronzer can look nice if it's done right. But I honestly think it only looks good if it looks natural - browns, tans, etc. I don't understand women who cake make up onto their faces, or who wear ridiculous colours. What I've been seeing a lot of lately is women wearing the wrong tone in their foundation. Like this one girl I saw yesterday... her whole face was freaking ORANGE! Not only that, but she was wearing about 50lbs of eyeshadown and liner. She looked like a complete moron. Sad part is, it looked to me like she was actually a pretty girl under all that make up. I see this all the time. Women think they are ugly, and that the only way men will find them attractive is if they literally hide their faces under a shit load of make up. No. Sorry. Doesn't work that way. I've grown up around all guys, and hang out with guys all the time. I know a thing or two about what they want. So, here is was a guy thinks of a woman based on her make up:
Wearing so much make up that it makes you wonder what she actually looks like: he thinks "she is ugly, but possibly easy, so 'round quarter to two, she just might do...".
Wearing the wrong tone: he thinks "she looks like a moron, and probably is a moron, so.. she's probably pretty easy to get into bed."
Wearing green/blue/etc eyeshadow high above the crease: he thinks "how much does she charge?"
Wearing natural/neutral colours, lightly, not overdone: he thinks "she looks intelligent and cute. I think I might like to go talk to her"
Wearing little to no make up: he thinks "she looks intelligent and cute. I think I might like to go talk to her."
Seriously... every guy I know says the same thing - they don't find it attractive when women wear so much make up that you can tell she is wearing make up from across the room. They like it when a girl gets a little dolled up, but not when she overdoes it. They either want just a wee bit of make up, or none at all. Why? Because they want to know what a girl actually looks like. A guy will take a girl home for a night or two that's caked the make up on, but it's because she looks insecure and therefore easy. He doesn't want a relationship with her, because he assumes she is fake, insecure, etc. Also, no guy wants to be dating a girl for more than a week or two without seeing her without make up on - he wants to know what she looks like. So, if you're, essentially,. lying about what you look like for the first couple weeks you're dating someone, you're asking for trouble.
I don't really know why I'm writing this... I guess I am just really sick and tired of seeing plastic freaking women everywhere I go. They just feed into the idea that our gender has nothing of value but our looks, and that looks are the most important thing for a girl to worry about. We should concern ourselves with being healthy and looking healthy, definitely.. but if you're spending an hour in front of the mirror every morning, and going to the bathroom to "fix your face" multiple times a day, you've got a freaking problem. We should be concentrating much more of our time and energy on exercising our brains and developing our talents - becoming whole people rather than just a shell. why don't (most) men wear make up? Because they are socially valued for their strength, their brains, etc - not their looks. Why do (most) women wear make up? Because they are socially valued for their looked, not their strength, their brains, etc. Study after study has shown that when two women apply for the same job (even when the employer is a woman!) the more attractive one almost always gets hired, regardless of the comparative qualifications of the two. Something is seriously not right about that. And women are just as much part of the problem as men are. Women judge one another extremely harshly, because so damn many of us are so insecure in ourselves that we feel the need to judge other women more harshly. We spend hundreds to thousands of dollars a year on make up, hair products, weight loss programs, uncomfortable clothing, and cosmetic surgery. We spend more of our time when preparing for a job interview on our appearance than we do on the answers we will give. Something's got to change. And I think a good place to start is taking an axe to the make up kit.

imo
if shes cute, then she doesnt need make up.
but most women do... :P
And to tag on to WV response... I didn't have a mother-figure in the home to teach me how to wear make-up. I did it wrong, caked it on when I thought I needed to wear it for a special occasion. And honestly, I thought blue eye shadow up to my eyebrows and bright red lipstick slighty outside the lines looked GOOD. Yeah...youth are disillusioned. Can't judge them on that. Mine was simply because I'd never learned how to apply makeup.
overpainted is bad. I have gone rounds with my daughter over the amount of eye make-up she wears, but she's 21 now so she doesn't have to listen. Someday she will realize, I hope!
I dont buy and dress nor wear make up are certain hair style for any freakin man to feel good and wanted. I do it for me myself and I and Iv never had any man to complain and if 1 should dare to tell me that he doesnt like my dress or make up I would simply tell him to stay out of my closet and make up case. What can I say I like me and everything about myself just the way I always have and always will and Iv never been with out a date when I wanted someone on my arm.
I've always been a kinda "to each his own" person. But, I do have to laugh when I see pictures of my SIL and a couple of her friends. My SIL is a awesome person, mother to 3, and wife and keeps a beautiful home. But she and her friends have apparently developed an addiction to green and blue eyeshadow. And I mean GREEN and BLUE! From lashes to brow. They are all in their early 30's. It looks absolutely hysterical. They are all very pretty, dress nice, and don't wear any other "odd" makeup. I just don't get it. And they are all married so I would hope they aren't doing it to pick up guys!
Keavme surely you didnt write of the dead.
The muti millionaire dressed as she wished and raised funds for many causes which includes but not limited to cancer society.
she is no longer with us.
wow woman can be net pickers, thats no surpize.
Speaking of breast cancer, Admiral... I actually have an appointment for an ultrasound next month to take a look at a lump I've found. From everything I've read on health websites, etc, it doesn't seem to be cancerous, and my doctor things it's a fibrothingamajig, so I am not overly worried... but I have been thinking a lot about what decisions I may have to make if I find out that the news is not so positive... wondering if maybe you could PM me and describe what your lump(s) felt like? I would greatly greatly appreciate it.
I just don't feel at ease wearing it. My sis wouldn't leave the house without it. We're very different. I think, for me, some of it is that I do all I can to repell casual male attention due to the abuse I had as a child. But, I know I look CRAP in makeup! Done with an artisitc hand it can be fabulous, and I look at these women and feel like a child, but done badly, and everyone jumps to the conclusion that she is a slag, a slapper, a tart.
Isn't is sad that we can't be who we want to be without worrying about what others think? I'm going grey, and stopped dying my (mostly) grey hair. Even my mother thought it was a bad idea!!!!!
Fuck vanity!! Do what makes YOU feel good!! Dare to be an individual!!!! And if that means no make-up, then go for it. If it means make-up like Barbara Cartland GO FOR IT!!! Life is too short to worry about what other tossers think about the way you look!! Until women start to dress/colour/make-up for themselves, they will always be subservient to the males.
There you go.
