Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

The other night I lost a battle to the demons and I self harmed after 4 years of not doing it.. ive been a mess for the last few days and just slowly putting on a mask.. i felt so guilty, alone, and broke down.. i couldn't stand how I was feeling anymore, so I decided to text the suicide/crisis hotline thats provided in canada because I didn't know where else to turn to.. even though I have support, I still have such a hard time finding the right words to express what ive been carrying.. the person I got connected with really helped me see how much I was actually carrying alone, and I broke down so many times.. I talked about my dad who I cut out of my life, my eye sight that I am losing due to RP a genetic eye disease, and how my family only sees me has this happy go getter person who is always positive.. i cried so much when they pointed out how much I was carrying behind the fake smile.

So just as I was coming to a holiday weekend, I get a meeting invitation at the last minute from my boss and HR. I've been in the job for 3 weeks. I've been working constantly and all the time and apparently I am not getting this as fast as they think that I should. And they said that I should take the weekend to think about whether I think this job is for me. I just can't believe it. I kind of...

My husband has late stage RP, almost blind. There is hope and a life even with RP but I will say he spent years depressed and drinking and unable to find a job he could do. He now teaches computer skills and does all kinds of visual impairment or blind stuff mostly online. But first he went through that normal depression stage because it is such a life altering disease.
Look up a group called Accessible World (AW) run out of Canada that does zoom groups of all kinds. The people will embrace. you if you ask for help. They listen to audio books and do bookclubs in one instance and know how to get the audio books for free. Other types of hobby groups on zoom through AW.
There has to be a big national Canadian group for connection and support for the visually impaired as the USA has two big national groups. My husband participates in one of these. He learned to use a computer and white cane through our state's division of disability services which I assume Canada also has. Now that my husband knows hundreds of visually impaired folks, he is happy and independent in life.
