Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Hello,
This actually is not a depression post, but I am looking for some advice if people are willing to do that. I actually had an amazing couple of days. I took a day off and paid off my car and one of my credit cards, and had an interview at a place that I really want to work, and then something else amazing happened.
I had this good friend fifteen years ago with whom I had lost touch, and for no apparent reason he kept popping into my head. A really nice guy, extremely intelligent, trustworthy, brillant, hardworking. Just kept popping into my head. I hadn't seen him in ten years. I was thinking about him and then forgot about it. A few weeks later, I picked up my phone one day to see a notification in my messages-he sent a friend request and message to me on social media. Unbelievable. I do believe in energy and sensing energy, and things like this. It still never ceases to amaze me when this happens though.
We met for dinner and connected like we always did. We are very much alike, spend our time and hobbies the same way, think alike, resonate. It's incredible. We have the same birthdate as well. Even weirder and more synchronous. He said that he was remembering me and thinking fondly and how he always felt happy in my presence. We always had a platonic relationship.
What I am thinking is this: he is everything I've ever wanted or looked for in a partner, and I've dated unsuccessfully for years, as has he.We were talking about this lastnight, mutual friends we've dated and breakups. I've never had a particular romantic attraction to him, but, I think that I would like to. I think this is a person that is a right fit for me and we already have a relationship to start.
I don't know how to approach this or if he is even thinking this. I know that attraction cannot be forced or manufactured. I would hate to explore this avenue and have it fail badly. In the past I've slept with friends just to test it out. I did this twice and it was truly disastrous. Not only was the sex really dismal and awkward, the friendship was totally ruined.
Maybe I should just spend time with him and see where it goes. I am not at all sure what I want to do. I don't want to impose upon the situation. I have a few other male friends with whom I have tons in common-after all that is why we are friends, but I am not attracted to them. I don't know why I feel differently about him. Maybe because he is in fact attractive and brilliant and I admire him immensely. He is decidedly not a narcissist-and I unfortunately have a lot of experience with that.
Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

My advice would be to take it slow with this guy. If you can, avoid intimacy for awhile. As you wrote, intimacy too soon could muddle things emotionally, and mess things up.
Even though you knew him 15 years ago, he has changed, you have changed. Get to know who he is now, and have him get to know who you are now, as well. A lot can change in 15 years.
I wouldn't have any "big talks about where this is going....". anytime soon. Too often, relationships are ruined because someone rushes things. Just spend time together, communicate, enjoy getting reacquainted again.
Take it slow. Have fun. All good news!!
