Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

>>I am 72 and live alone and have no family in the area. There is no one to talk to, confide in, give me a hand when I need help with something, or give me a hug.
I am (going on) 70 and in the same situation you describe. I had one good neighbor friend (close) and we helped each other out with life's challenges. He has very recently moved quite some distance away. I am in the same boat as you.
I do believe that (by definition) you are clinically depressed (and angry). 3 years is a long time for 'normal depression' to go on. I suggest you consult with a different medical professional .. because clinical depression is treatable. I think the first consult was 'out of order'.
The other things you miss, .. someone to talk to, give a hug . .. etc ... there is no one but you to fix it. I don't have that either, but I am VERY busy ... every day .. with one 'project' or another. I do not have or take the time to be lonely or yearn for a touch. I am a member of a charity group ... we meed once a week. I am restoring a classic sports car. I have 3 motorcycles to enjoy. I have a pet dog for whom I live my life. I fix other people's computers for free. I learn ONGOING computer skills in order to maintain my current advanced computer skills. i help other aged/disabled veterans around their homes with fence repair, construction, etc ... whatever. I have other hobbies that lend to a full day of gratification .. each day. I am lacking in romance and social activities. I have transformed from agnostic to a somewhat religious person within the last few years.
Some things ... other people cannot do for us. We must do them ourselves. I recommend you take on something new and interesting to you .... recreational drone (quadcopter) flying, or? or? or/ ... where you spend time LEARNING from it. You need to occupy your time with living. The romance, hugs, and confidence will come when it comes. Meanwhile, there are other occupy9ing factors you can generate.
One comment about a pet. If you get one, .. keep in mind its life span. My GREATEST fear is that my dog will out live me.
Believe it or not, I PRAY that does not happen. That is my greatest concern ... I do believe.
Gentle hugs, and welcome!

I am not lonely but I do get lonesome sometimes just because there is no one talk to so I write in a journal about what kind of day I have had, or things I plan to do.
I work 6 days a week, but only 51/2 hours a day, right in the middle of the day. I cannot drive at after dark so when I get home from work I am in for the night. Chat rooms like this is perfect company for me.
I do not want a pet of any kind. No more responsibilities right now.
My depression is a result of an ongoing series of events. It has just seemed something different every month and no end to them. I get one issue resolved, then another stumbling block appears in my path, along with the expense
I have no friends that are not business related, and sometimes you just dont want to discuss things in your personal life with the people you do business with.
When the time changes again and it does not get dark so early, I hope to get out more.

Yeah, I could move but choose not to. This is home and they moved away. What if they decide to move again?
I don't like drop in company and I don't like a lot of who? what? when? which? where? why? how? questions. My home is not a .
museum.
The thing I DON'T like most about meeting new people is they will start a conversation with asking a lot of questions: What is your name? where do you live? etc before telling you anything about themselves.
This week I did not have my weekly therapy session because of the holiday. My car broke down three times and yesterday my boss told me she is going to close the store I work after Christmas. I don't know if I can find another job in this small town at my age.
My head is barely above water financially, I have had to keep renewing loans I hoped I'd have paid off at the end of the year until this last breakdown with the car.
I wish I could cry, but can't even cry.
I must have transportation to get to work and back.
I have a bunch of weekly chores to do. Since I live alone, they do not take long, but must be done. I write letters to one daughter and one sister on Sunday afternoons whether I hear from them or not.
I wish there were someone that would say let me take care of this for you. And do it.
I wish I could just crawl in a hole and let the world go by.
Things did get worse.\
See JUST WHEN YOU THINK.
