I took it for about a year, it took a while for it to take effect (2 wks) or so and it was ok for a while, but then i seemed to have suicidal thoughts and a feeling inside like i was going to explode. It is different with everyone, just like any other med. You just have to monitor yourself, maybe even keep a journal on how you feel everyday. If things aren't seeming better. change!!

Yesterday was an ok day, I was meeting my wife for lunch so I "pushed through" the overwhelming desire to sleep, and I kept plugging along. I felt fine for the rest of the day, and slept like a baby, waking up refreshed. About to take my daily 20mg, so I'll keep track of how I'm feeling. Thanks for all your support!

Hang in there Rob the sleepiness for me went away after about 10 days. I didn't notice any side effects going from 10mg to 20mg but I was on 10 mg for 2 weeks before my doctor wanted me to go up to 20mg. This site is great lots of support here it helps. The journal on this site helps too it helps keep track of your progress. It is also a great way to vent.

Lexapro has worked relatively well for me. The only problem has been that I become resistant to it fairly quickly. We upped the dosage several times, and ended up adding wellbutrin to the mix. I seem to have stabilized for the most part. I still have severe dips, but level most of the time. The WORST thing about the lexapro has been the utter destruction of my sex drive. I have never had much, but it's gone since I've been on the meds. I have to take it in the morning or it interferes with my sleep. It doesn't do jack for anxiety though

^^Ditto about the sex drive. I've always had what I consider a higher-than-average sex drive (could do it at least 2-3 times a day, easily). Now, sex just doesn't interest me unless I'm directly visually stimulated.

Not so sleepy today. HOWEVER, along with the loss of libido, I noticed that I do have a very common side effect: anorgasmia, or more correctly, ejaculatory problems. Without getting too graphic, I went for almost 45 minutes today, got aroused easily but was completely unable to orgasm/ejaculate. VERY frustrating. Honestly, if this is a permanent side effect, I won't be taking this drug for very long. Talk therapy is working wonders anyway. Can anyone tell me if this goes away eventually? Lexapro has been a great med for me. I have been taking it off and on for several years. I have no side effects other than being a bit more tired when I first start it.

I'm on day 8 of Lexapro, and although I do have a few side effects; fatigue, sore TMJ, a.m. nausea, gas....I feel a hundred times better than before. Not dwelling on sucidal thoughts...Maybe because it's still hard for me to concentrate but the fuzziness from the first few days has passed.

Thursday will be 21 days for me. The only thing I 'think' I feel is less 'anxiety' and maybe a little less 'sad' all the time. I do notice one thing significantly: I had a really bad auto accident on 11/1 - almost totalled my jeep by swerving out of the way from someone who almost hit me...but..thankfully I wasn't badly hurt and the jeep is almost as good as new. HOWEVER, had so much anxiety driving on the interstate. I've noticed in the last few days I don't have the same anxiety when I get out there on the highway. Sometimes however, I wish I were numb...
Does anyone get tired of 'feeling'?

Today is day 3. I am feeling sad, and tired, and dizzy. I would love nothing more than to just crawl into bed and ignore the world.

I am on it now at 20mg a day for over 6 months) and it seems to level me out, However I still get massive crashes every now and then.

Oh ya, dont miss a dose, it will mess u up a bit if you do

I've heard recently of two people that Lexipro did wonders
for them. I read on hear that it made people tired. I have
the opposite effect. All of these medicines wires the shit
out of me. Well they do. That's been my reaction to
the anti-deps.

Lexapro is the only treatment that has worked for me. I have tried alot of meds. The Lexapro levels me out and still allows me to function in my day to day job. It did take some time to figure out the right time to take it. If I take it in the A.M. I am useless with the drug, however when I take it between 7 and 8 pm, I do very well with it. I wouldn't think of another pill for me. Although, some insurance companies require that you "step" up to it (I am assuming cost issues) but I have stopped taking it because of insurance and now I figure out a way to pay the $108.00 a month for it.

Since my last post I have noticed more of a difference even as slight as it is. The 'edge' is gone or better said by some of you 'it leveled me out'. It's a little easier to concentrate and remember things at work. I still have moments of being really tired and I'm restless at night - but doc said that should fade. So...maybe in time I may hae to 'up' the dose...but for now I'm 'ok'...

I hated lexapro. I had way to many side effects and the medicine kept wearing off. I am on Effexor XR now and I love it. No side effects what so ever. But dont miss any doses. I messed up taking my meds for two days and was going through withdrawls until I figured out I forgot to take my meds.

I have been on Lexapro for 8 weeks now. Prior to going on to Lexapro, I was battling anxiety and depression. Today I am so much better in both those areas but it is hard for me to say that if that can all be attributed to Lexapro because I have done so many other things besides the Lexapro to deal with the anxiety and depression. But I had zero side effects and I think it partially contributed to my feeling better.
