Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Today I feel like I am just here. I feel bad for having depression but I also feel bad because I should be more grateful for all that I have. I have an apartment, car, no major debt, great career, amazing friends, but I just have these thoughts in my head that keep telling me its pointless to stay optimistic. That I will always be like this: just alone and in so much pain. In times like these I think about my ex who was just so easily able to forget about me and I think of everyone else who was just able to forget. Why am I just so forgetable? Why is it so difficult to not just be happy but just to not feel like shit all the time. I am strong when I leave my apartment, or at least I act like I am, but everyday I find myself just crying when I get home because I just feel so empty inside. I just dont know what I am doing here anymore.

Hope the dog days of summer aren't getting you down!

As for your ex, yes she rebounded but no one knows what was going on inside her head either. She was probably depressed about the breakup, but you don't know.
And look at it this way too---it could be much, much worse. You could be struggling, no job, no car, and living in a bad neighborhood.
Maybe if you focus on the positives, you'll feel better. Give it a try!
I did. I too had everything like you - but I always felt empty inside. When I walked out the door, I shoved down my insecurities, needs, and became the person I thought everyone else wanted me to be.
In my first significant relationship, I also put myself last and put his needs first. It worked great for him, but inside not for me. Then he abandoned and betrayed me...and I thought...wait...how can he do this to me? I literally put myself aside for you???
So I would definitely reevaluate how have you learned to "abandon" yourself?
Saying yes when you really meant no? Doing things to make other "happy." Following society's checklist of success and happiness, but in the end achieving it all...and feeling empty.
You have to start making a conscious effort to make each choice on what YOU WANT. Despite how off the beaten path it is. Maybe you require a period of self-discovery?
The guidance of a counselor or mental health professional can greatly assist you with this. Depression is tough, I took experience it on and off. But more so lately, when I listen to what I truly want to do, and put my needs and wants first - it really helps it stay in check.
Sending you light and love!
