Anybody else out there find their depression is distorting their thinking?
My husband and I got into an argument the other day, because he forgot to put toilet paper on the shopping list, and we were totally out of TP, and I had just gone to the store. It turned into this big argument, and I ended up balling, sobbing, crying myself to sleep, locking him out of the bedroom. I had all these irrational thoughts about guilt - guilty for being depressed all the time and sad that he had to deal with that. That led to self-loathing, which all of here are good friends with. It was just pulling me down, into a whirlpool of darkness.
Afterwards when we were talking about it, my husband reassured me that I didn't need to feel guilty, and that I reacted out of proportion to the problem at hand, which I agree with now looking backwards.
But how can I stop myself from thinking that no toilet paper is the end of the world?
Anyone else experience these kind of irrational thoughts/distorted thinking and disproportionate reactions? (I'm sure my anxiety played into this as well).

89FToday it is again another hot day but cooler then yesterday. Since this is August it is to be expected in my neck of the woods. All the grass is yellow and flowers are starting to go to seed. I need to water my garden but this time of the year I'm so over it, which is weird because all my plants have their fruit or veggies.Sandra, this time of year reminds me of your Dad and his toms. people have ups and downs so they know whe things arent going well
it will turn around eventually. Whe youre depressed , you dont have
the good times to give your mind and body rest . And you dont know
when or if youre going to feel better. I get frustrated with little things
and agitated more easily . I often end up iolating myself to try to hide it
but thats not a good thing either.

Hope something in this ramble helps.
I find meds really help to tone that down.
I remember one time -- it's funny now, but it wasn't then -- I was very depressed, with serious health issues, and I got a ticket on the way to my doctor's appointment which made me late, and I was bawling in his office. I reached for a kleenex and I couldn't get it out of the box and I was furious and crying even more. "I CAN'T EVEN GET A KLEENEX OUT!" lol
Like I said, it's funny now, but at the time, even this very, very small thing seemed to be a reflection of how lousy and unfair my life was!
So you are not alone. One day hopefully you will laugh at the GREAT TP BATTLE! :)

Question for those of you who say meds tone it down - I am currently on meds, and we just decided to up the dosage more, which I hope will help. Is it just the anti-depressants that help tone it down, or do you also use xanax or drugs like that?
