Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
This post may be hard to relate to. This may sound self-absorbed but hear me out first.
I used to go out and party and dance and drink but every time I do that sooner or later some creepy guy tries to touch me so nowadays I only go to very private gatherings where I know people will behave and I won't be sexually harrassed. It's not a big deal to me to go to more private gatherings because I've always enjoyed those more anyways but I just wanted to say that. It's not ok.
A couple of months ago I applied for a job as a city guide. (Because I speak good English and german I would have been an ok choice. They were looking for international students)
So I wrote back and forth with my contact person to try and find a time for a job interview. He asked for my WhatsApp and I assumed it would be for work and to communicate more quickly than via email. But then he just hit on me repeatedly and even after I had clearly stated that I wasn't interested in a relationship outside of work. So the reason that I didn't get that job was that some guy decided it would be appropriate to hit on a potential future employee and I am not willing to work with someone like that. Again, this pisses me off. (I got a better job than the one I had to miss because of that guy now but still)
Almost anytime I take a walk to a more crowded area (sometimes I am also just going to some place so I pass through crowded areas and no I'm not even talking about night time and also not about bad areas of the city) some guy will approach me and those guys are sometimes very rude. Most are at least somewhat rude so I shut them down quickly. Like I had a long talk with a guy today and he did not hit on me once. The sad part is that that was very exceptional. This may seem like a small thing and in a way it is but every now and then one of those guys will be scary and maybe on drugs. It's more about living in constant fear of being hit on (in an inappropriate entitled way) or harassed so even though the majority of guys that approach me probably aren't that bad, the few bad ones really make me fear everyone else too. None of them knows what kind of fucking guys approach me sometimes so it must be hard to understand my behavior sometimes when I'm being less than appreciative when someone calls me pretty. Also the reason I'm not yet used to this is that I don't go out much.
Today I gave my fb to a work colleague believing he had enough professional integrity to not hit on me given that we both work as nurses and also together in the same rather small ward... You see where this is going. Maybe he didn't know I have a bf. Also his message was kind of sweet. But now it might get awkward at work. I send a screenshot to my bf to make sure he was actually hitting on me because I didn't want to believe it. Gee I hope this doesn't get awkward. I kind of liked that guy in a friendly way. (Since I have a bf and also we work together that's the only way I can like him)
For fuck's sake I even got hit on on this site by a guy who is in this support group. This is not the place for that in my humble opinion. I came here because I have issues. Some of them relate to sexual harrassment and constantly being seen as someone's potential mate)
I'm really losing all empathy for lonely guys who just want a girlfriend.
I hope this post isn't triggering to anyone. I know we all suffer a lot from love and rejection especially. I went on a sort of rant and I don't mean to say that my life is bad because of this shit. It's just one element. Maybe I have been too oblivious to this before but do not dare tell me that it's my fault guys continuously act that way. Maybe it's just this year. Funny enough since I have a bf this shit happens more often. Let's just hope it was just this year.

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

Just learn from your experiences, trust your gut, challenge yourself wisely, realize that *no one* feels comfortable *everywhere*, and it's OK to keep it safe.
Life isn't fair. We can't all walk where we want to, and not expect to be bothered...
Just focus on enjoying the experiences where you are able to feel more safe, and free to be yourself.
I appreciate you making this comment, as many people often don't understand how an attractive woman can experience feeling undervalued, used, and hurt by the 'admiration' that is often very shallow, and sometimes dangerous and threatening, from others.
Especially when you are kind, and you don't judge others by their appearance, either, because you reset that shallow minded attitude... Because sometimes people take that as a sign of weakness, and are mkre intent to target you, in an abusive way.
I was raped after I offered water from my sink, to the men doing construction on the road behind my store.
It was 100°, and I was just feeling empathy for them, pouring steaming asphalt, in that weather.
I was taken to be 'flirting' I guess. I was later raped by one of those men.
I am not so friendly, anymore.
And I don't have a store, anymore, or even leave the house much.
But as time goes on, I will become that invisible old lady... Something to look forward to... And to remind myself to not stop working in overcoming my social fears... Because maybe the best is yet to come.
Ive had numerous guys message me on here and I block them immediately.. Its not a dating site.. I don't really know how to stop the behavior but I'm agreeing with you..
I have never been aggressive towards women in any way. My son's wife said my son treats her with honor and respect because he learned it from me. I thought that was kind of a nice compliment.
I am sorry men treat you this way, I guess I am from the "old school" and treat people the way I like to be treated.
