My son runs a freight business. Our clients are Air Freight Forwarders. Friday I had a load that picked up in Salisbuy, Md to go to Santa Ana, Ca. Team drivers and they were suppose to be into delivery Monday. My son is not here and is on vacation in Jamaica and cant be reached.
The dispatcher said the truck broke down and so he is just making it into delivery two days late. My customer is upset but I told them I would get receits showing the truck was broke down.
So then the place where these bastards are delivering said they need to have them drop trailer there for two days because of them being late. The carrier is out of California and has a warehouse. I asked him how much to store it in the warehouse for two days and redeliver 4 miles from his warehouse. Well the bastard knows he has me over a barrel so he tells me $1000 for storage and $350 for redelivery. I told him it was his problem in the first place for being two days late. This infuriated him and thought he wouldnt get paid for the load so he threatened me with not even delivering anything until he got a com check right now for the whole load. My son is not here and there is nothing I can do.. I cant go to my customer or I will lose their business and that is how Ryan and I survive..

It WILL suck to have to give your son this news upon his return.....but all I can think is that it will be better than losing the customer...yes?

Or if you pissed him off can you swallow your pride and apologise to try and get him to be reasonable? Even if he's TOTALLY in the wrong.

this happens all the time, the break the seal re load and put new seal on... the first carrier takes the bite in the ass not UUUUUUUU...

It is stalling when you answer the same question over and over with different answers. Since you have not played the "boss out of town" card yet GO FOR IT! That will keep them happy for a day or so, then after you talk with your son you should have a better answer for them.
And by all means, read the contracts to see what is called for. Who knows, there may be a "both sides agree to chill out and find a solution" clause in it!!!
