I know it's awful and traumatizing but you had no intention to hit him and in those situations, you cannot risk your life or others' on the road. You did what anyone else would do. I completely understand why you feel like you do and it is completely justified but try your best not to beat yourself up. If the person driving behind you was where you were when the dog ran, he/she would have had to do the same thing. It's bad luck but not your fault. Please try to look on the bright side that you and the school bus are safe. I'm glad you're okay.

Thanks so much to you all. You just don't know how awful I've felt today, and other things went wrong today too, and got me in that dark place where I just want to give up, you know that paralyzing place where everything in the world just feels empty and meaningless.

I'm so sorry. I feel bad when I hit a chipmunk so I'd be devastated over a dog. It wasn't your fault. It will feel bad for a while unfortunately. Perhaps try to turn it into something else and give a few hours at a dog shelter. Those dogs love the attention.

I am so sorry. The only thing you can comfort yourself with is that 55mph is pretty fast, so the dog probably died instantly.

Did you check the state of your bumper? If you have a good dent it's probably he went to doggy heaven nice and quick.

You had no choice what you did. I feel for you. Had that bus hit you, or kids hurt on the bus, have to look at whole picture when some thing like this happens. All those other things that you say happened after this, I am sure not as bad as you may think but seemed that way you were already feeling so bad. This happened to me one time on way to work, 3rd shift. I had no where to go, snow piled up both sides of the road, two lanes,,,,cars both ways, and a dog was on top of snow bank...probably left out for last pee of the night, and he slipped down the snow bank and into my tires. Til I could stop, the other car behind me, hit the dog also, well, I was a mess. so was that other driver. There was nothing we could do. So I understand how you feel. The dog is in heaven running with the other pets. Struggles we go thru now, will give us strength for later. It will take time to heal. Hugs and prayers.

I know it hurt you to hit this doggie! Im sorry his owner let him out off leash! Nothing hurts worse than losing a pet for some of us so Im sorry for them too! I just know you did your best! Hugs bill
