Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I'm sorry if your mom is in her own little world and not being much help to you these days. But hon that does not mean you give up and don't get help. Your young and if Depression goes untreated and you don't learn coping skills how to manage it, then it just gets worse as you get older, so please talk to someone so you can get on the path to help.
Hang in there okay. Many of us had crappy parents who do much worse things to us than just ignore our mental health needs and we're still here. Its a shame that any idiot can be a parent, that there's no screening process or licensure required...the world might be somewhat of a better place if there were.
Your strong, you've proven that by going to your mom....now you need to find the right person to talk to , the person that can help you with the depression and dark thoughts. Don't give up, there is someone out there for you.
Take care,
Kat
I'm just emotional and I should of gave her time to process this demon.
Some people are jerks, but eventually get their heads on straight.
I'm glad to hear she's organising counselling for you.
As a parent of 4 children ages 15 years old to 16 months old, it comes as a complete shock at times to hear your child is depressed and/or suicidal. The parent in you starts thinking "Ive given them all I can to make sure they are happy and taken care of and I still couldn't stop it." You start to feel like you failed your child as a parent. I agree that some people have no idea how to handle this situation. Most are in denial and refuse to believe depression is real. Anyways, that is a gigantic bombshell to drop on your mom. Give her the benefit of the doubt to process this. It sounded like at the end of the post she is on board to help you which is fantastic. The advice I will tell you is when you talk to someone tell them everything you feel. The more they know the more they can help you. It is very likely you will be put on an anti-depressant. They take about 3-6 weeks depending on the medication to take FULL effect. Be patient. Let it do its job. If you feel it is not working contact your doctor who prescribed it asap. ********DO NOT STOP TAKING IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WITHOUT DOCTORS APPROVAL********* There is a thing called Discontinuation Syndrome and it is absolutely horrible. Been there a few times myself.
Ok your point of view. I have extremely little information as to why you feel this way but it is overwhelming you enough to want to do this. Please dont. There is so much out there for you to find and explore. It says youre 131 which I know is not right but there are opportunities and experiences just waiting for you. Giving up now is not the answer. I know those demons in your head say otherwise but its a daily fight for anyone.
As a side note, as a parent and as someone who has suffered through anxiety, depression, traumatic evenys, and suicide attempts I can say if any of my 4 came up to me and told me they were sad and didnt want to be here the first thing I would do is hug them and tell them I loved them. Then ask them what I can do to help no matter how big or small a thing. Its key for your mom to look at this from a perspective of its time to be a friend and a mom and not pass judgement. If they were old enough to understand I would explain I have been in their shoes and they are never alone and my door is always open to talk anytime doesnt matter if Im at work or asleep. Next step is up to you to find help and stay with it. There may be a time where you feel great and you dont need therapy/meds anymore. I wish it worked that way but it doesnt. Keep going with both. Lastly thank your mom for understanding the seriousness and urgency of the situation. It is a very difficult thing to grasp and just let her know you appreciate her help
Lastly I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes. You like me and everyone on site are survivors and warriors. Please reach out to any of us. We are here to help. If we cant we will find someone who can. Take care and if you need anything send a message
"Even in times of trauma, we try to maintain a sense of normality until we no longer can. That, my friends, is called surviving. Not healing. We never become whole again ... we are survivors. If you are here today... you are a survivor. But those of us who have made it thru hell and are still standing? We bare a different name: warriors."

As far as your mom.....do you have a teacher to talk to. A counselor at school? You can call crisisline too. Or a church, Christian church. Maybe they can help. Ask God for help. He will not fail you. God bless

Oh and my Mom is still trying to figure out this. She's been there since I told her I need help. She took the day off to make sure we went there she waited for 2 1/2 hours for me while I got "checked" in and being my rock. But it's hard for me her only child wants to die and cuts herself. I feel like I'm a disappointment to her.
