Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Every time my wife sets me off or my mom calls drunk, I find myself darting outside for a walk to get away from it all. As if refuge is hidden somewhere around my neighborhood. Then on that walk I think and think and eventually come to the conclusion that my life sucks but does it really?
I just learned of a new strategy to gauge whether or not I should be analyzing my life. We have a tendency to analyze the worth of our life at the absolute worst times. When we are depressed, pissed, or in an otherwise dark state of mind, those are the times we find the need to analyze. When things are all sunshine and rainbows, whats the point in self-reflection? When things are good we dont sense a need to justify the good, its just expected and sometimes taken for granted. Well dont let me speak for you, its just something Ive noticed for myself.
The problem is that whatever emotional state of mind you are in, it will most definitely slant your mind toward seeing your life through that lens. So Ive made it a rule that if Im in a low place, Im not allowed to analyze and if Id like to analyze I need to be feeling happy or neutral at a minimum. HALT helps me keep myself in check. It stands for Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired.
So next time you feel like everything is helpless I encourage you to run a check and see if any of these items are going on at the moment. If youre hungry or tired thats an easy fix, eat or sleep. Try to have a system in place to help you if youre angry or feeling lonely. For me I handle anger by going on long walks and loneliness by calling someone. Honestly, I still need to work on my system for loneliness but I think you get the point.
Well thats just my two cents for the day, I hope it helps!
Respectfully,
Brock

Everyday I feel more and more sick. Being in pain every day, I've learned to disguise it. So well that others don't believe my pain when I speak of it. Needing help but only receiving negative responses, I find my way but pay for it later. I absolutely need the rest but there's pressing things to be done.

Ugh my depression is really being triggered by the grief of losing my mom. Ugh it sucks. I wish this pain would leave me already.

In my case the "L" in HALT stands for LAZY!
