Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

hi everybody,
why do I feel like I need to apologise for when I finally hit rock bottom and lean on my already depressed husband? He turns it around and get offended like I've just attacked him but all I have done is said I'm feeling really unhappy and worthless, that I don't feel like he needs me because it doesn't matter what I do, it doesn't help and so I am left feeling empty! So then he shuts down even more and storms out like it's my fault for dare being honest and opening up. He is the only person in this world that I know can stand there while his wife of 12 years cries and begs for a hug and does nothing... So as if I don't feel shit enough and then being vulnerable enough to open up to him on the hope he may just look at me with the right face to know I am loved and his depression is not to do with me and a reflection of me as a person, wife and mother.... To reassure me that he loves me unconditionally... But nothing.
i know he is depressed and at his lowest but I am telling u that I'm not asking for much, I'm not making him guess what I need and I'm not expecting him to move mountains- I could be begging him for a hug and that's it!
I feel eel so guilty... He is the one suffering from depression so I shouldn't ask anything of him but honestly, I would hop on one foot for a whole day if that's what he needed to feel better yet I know it isn't recipicated ....
any my kind words would be so grateful right now x

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Please just know you are not alone, others out here understand those frustrations.
I hope things start to get better for you soon xx
He may feel like he does not matter, and reaching out to others when one feels low can be a very risky thing. (That is, we risk getting rebuffed, and that may hurt too much.)
It sounds like you are really struggling with feeling powerless to help him. Have you thought about seeing a therapist? I think it might be a good idea. You need support and guidance on how to deal with your husband's depression, not to mention just someone you can vent to and not feel guilty. They can teach you coping and communication skills that could really help both you and your husband. A support group for family members of depressed people might also be helpful. Is he seeing a therapist? If so, maybe you could request a sit down to discuss some of the issues you are having in your marriage. My therapist has done that with my husband and I (I'm the one with depression), and it was really helpful.
The most important thing is to take care of yourself. It's easy to lose yourself when you are taking care of someone else, but you need to have your needs met as well. The worst thing is to neglect yourself. Make sure you have a strong social support, go out with your friends, call a family member, etc. Carve some time out to nurture yourself. Maybe find a hobby. Write, draw, play music, however you express yourself. Taking care of yourself is not selfish, it will enable you to be able to support him better if you are not stressed out and neglected.
I hope you feel better soon. hugs
Hope that helps
God Bless
In short you're being strung along. And YOU are the one with real depression.
Look at who has the power in your relationship. The guy with the power is not depressed.
And you're the one with no power to get your needs addressed.
Now, maybe you have worn him out with neediness and he's learned these methods to shut you down. In which case it's your fault. or you've married a guy who is spoiled and he is the only focus in his life, in which case it's his fault. I can't know this from here. But I do know the two of you need to start with some serious counselling.
We both see counsellor individually and as a couple and yes it is good to vent .
TBH sometimes I do think he "plays" on it slot more with me and when we are alone at home- I thought at first it was a bad thing- like it's his way of having control and seeing how far he can push me, but I have since learnt that he is at his worst with me and home alone because this is his safe place . Running our business needs him to have some kind of customer service and don't get me wrong he can't switch in on and off , even the work colleagues have noticed he's not really there much anymore...
So I do feel for him.
I do agree that my neediness has probably worn him down as I have no family members to turn to for even a conversation. I'm so glad I found this site tho because it has given me hope.
I found myself smiling yesterday and actually wanting to be his strength again which I haven't wanted to for awhile now.
I know I am on one extreme with NEEDING emotional connection and he is on the complete opposite side, doesn't need any... so I guess I'm just hoping that eventually we can kinda meet in the middle... together.
I felt obligated, I felt like a failure, I felt I was getting it all wrong. I felt my family judged me. In the end my sister said something to me. She said "everyone has a right to feel loved" and I thought "I haven't felt loved by this guy since 1994."
And I realised I didn't feel loved because I wasn't loved. And that was it.
Still I do as much as I can and always apologize for not being able to do more. You deserve the same at the very least.
I could be upset crying etc too and he just walks right by me and he doesnt even have an illness disorder etc maybe he is just sick of me I can tell you he sits there every night i posted a long journal sites there every night watches tv and says absolutely nothing to me I just wanted u to k now u r not alone and I will keep you in my prayers always LOL sis jan
