We were so poor I didn't know we were poor. I thought everyone lived like we did. We live in a mobile home with 7 people. It had 4 bedrooms but 3 were so small that I have had walk in closets bigger. Again, I didn't see the problem with this. My mom raised 5 kids by herself. We never went without a meal ..even if we ate a lot a frozen dinners. And, she saw to it we had clothes....even if she had to make them herself...Lord did I hate that. I went to work part time to buy my own clothes I guess we were not so poor after all.

My family of 6 grew up in a 3 bedroom house. We were middle class but it felt like we were poor. My mom was raised poor and in an abusive home, and went from foster home to foster home. So because she is stingy with money we didn't grow up with fashion. I think we could have been spoiled with brand name clothes, cool decorated bedrooms and blah blah but we weren't. It was old, used funiture and hand me down clothes. No cell phones or i pods for christmas. I am now grateful for that upbringing. We didn't turn out to be spoiled brats! Maybe depression but thats genetic LOL

Thank God we had a shower...I could see my brothers now. haha

In utah they have stores called Deseret Industries for the poor... my mom would get our clothes there... I would go to school and the girls would say " Hey, my mom donated that dress last week"

Geesh,, we were all poor weren't we? Actually my husband's family was far poorer than mine. No food didn't mean there was some sugar and oats in the cupboard, it meant nothing.

when I had my children we lived in a small apartment but we were not poor although all the neighbors were..

At Christmas the neighbor kids would come to our house early in the morning to see what Ryan got for Christmas.. One little boy named Stevey said to me "Why does Santa love Ryan more then us?"... now thats a sad story...

I lived with my dad, and we had mould on the walls and he made me wash my clothes in the bath and I was too embarrassed to bring friends home so I used to jump off the bus after school a few stops earlier to pretend I lived in the nice bungalow down the road. Not ashamed of it at all. I just don't judge anyone for how they live is all, so it's a good thing : )
