Colors can change when a new company makes the drug. Double check that
you have the correct pills. The active ingredient in generic and brand pills
are the same. So they are supposed to act the same. Call the local pharmacist
if you still have questions.

I remember reading an article that lots of patients that were put on generic Wellbutrin when the generic became available experienced a decline in function and wellbeing - so much so that the FDA eventually looked into it and there was in fact, a difference between the generic and name brand drugs.

After that, some doctors went through the prior authorization process to prescribe patients the name brand version of certain medications.
This, of course, meant a higher co-pay for the patiients.

This was a long time ago though, and I don't know if manufacturers of generic drugs have changed their formulas since to closer match name brand drugs due to all the bad press at the time. Still, if you notice a difference it may be worth talking to your prescribing doctor about your concerns.

When a Patent on a medication is released, the basic chemical formula to create that medication is then free for all drug companies to make. The difference being all companies are allowed to use whatever "grade" of product they choose in making the medication. Not all chemicals are of the same quality and formula's or "recipe's" can vary slightly from company to company. They have a "percentage variant" that they mus follow for the drug to pass FDA guidelines.

So yes generic meds will differentiate from Brand name meds and from other generics....it's how it works and it's why they cost less.

I was on Wellbutrin for years and tried the generic but had to have the name brand. The insurance company didn't like it so I had to have my Dr. send them a form once a year stating I had to have the name brand. Which of course was more expensive for me also. This really stinks since anxiety/depression are so hard to medicate anyway and then we have to deal with what color the pill is?
I am also on the generic for abilify and when I started it was a little round pill and the next time I refilled it was an odd shaped little green/blue pill. I have been struggling with this new one. Maybe abilify just isn't working for me like it did when I started or is it because it is a different pill.

I was in an antidepressant and could only take a specific brand of the generic. The other generic brands bothered me. You can call your pharmacist and tell them you can only take the pink pill. The manufacturer’s name will be in the pill bottle and tell them that is the one you want otherwise the pharmacy will just give you whatever generic they have in stock. They would have to order in the generic I wanted most of the time but I would just call a day or so ahead so they would get it in time. I would call every time I needed a refill and tell them which brand I wanted.

On the prescription bottle it may say the pill is the same but has a different look. Yes, it can change depending on the manufacturer.
Years ago I was on Wellbutrin, before the generic came out and I think it helped for a little while Last year another provider tried me on it again but it gave me bad side effects. I'm sure this time it was the generic.
I will not take another antidepressant again! I have been on many over the decades and I now have become basically treatment resistant to them and am getting ready to try TMS in a week and a half. Please read my post from yesterday regarding that. I am hoping to get responses to my post from anyone who is getting it now or has had it already.

There can be differences. Some people respond better to one than the other.

Stop being a victim of pills is the best advise I can share from personal experience. Take control and find what heals you. There are many options, outside of popping pills and begging Drs to heal you. Nature has your cure, only if you want to heal.....although some do not want to heal. I hope you are one that wants to heal. I was told I am dead soon by Western Dr.s, but I refused and researched Eastern Medicine. Save yourself and learn about Traditional Chinese Medicine. Not in the WalMart Aisle like some do, but real research. Your cure is in nature....not pills.

Ele, maybe that route works for you and if it does, great! It's not for everyone and can be expensive. It is not covered by insurance so many can't afford it. Plus it's not FDA approved.

There is absolutely a difference between generics of the same drug. They are made by different manufacturers. Check the label on the bottle for the name of the manufacturer of the pink pill and request that manufacturer at your pharmacy, as others have said.

Each company will use different "fillers" and "additives" and these can definitely affect a person. A person might not even know they are getting a different pill each refill. And, a person might give up taking that drug, due to new side effects from the different manufacturer. I'm actually glad yours were different colors, so that you know there was a difference.

GirlinCalif. Unfortunately I called two different pharmacies and they said the one I wanted wasn’t being made any more. My dr put me on rexulti a couple weeks ago. It didn’t seem to be doing anything so she upped it on Friday. Now I am having a lot of anxiety. I will talk to her again tomorrow and hopefully we can cut back or do something else as much as I hate starting something new.
