Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
And I was pretty much ready to do the same..
hugs and security
Secondly, some people need the police knocking on their door and to be in their face, so reporting it was a good call.
Thirdly, please next time keep yourself safe, let the police do the searching of the yard etc and notify them straight away. There wasn't a problem this time thankfully, but to help people you need to be safe yourself.
It is lovely to hear there are people like yourselves in the world, it gives me more reason to shun and ignore destructive people. XXOO
tell your sister that her sister needs to watch her back and be extra careful now. next time, she needs to hang up the phone.
i was thinking, can you hav the call traced, you might be able through the phone company andnow especially since you have a police report.
That poor girl, and you and your friend; you must have all been terrified.
Hugs to you all.
so sorry this happened and hopefully the police will be able to get them.
This is NOT the last time this 16 yr old is going to be scared shitless. How she reacts next time may very well dictate whether she lives or dies. She MUST be taught to harness the fear. She (and you) can get as angry as they want, but trust me, cool thinking will win out over emotinal thinking EVERY time. AND, it takes practice.
She should learn to "turn the tables", in ANY situation, to her advantage. Lie if she has to, but get the upper hand. She could say ,VERY CALMLY, well, now that I know WHO you ARE, I can take the appropriate action, good bye. Hang up leaving them wondering. Even with caller ID blocked she can still get the number thru the police, etc. She should learn to tap a pencil onto the receiver, in a very controlled rhythm, and ask if they hear that clicking sound, that's me tracing you. Let them sweat. Odds are they don't know what tracing sounds like. A metronome would be even better. Just put it where they can hear it while you talk.
Also, she must learn to listen for clues. If she expects this sort of thing again, get a tape recorder or an electronic messaging machine. Then record it for studying later. She should try to determin if she was targeted, or just the random recipient of a crank call. All this info will dictate how she reacts. Calm will scare THEM, because they can't be sure what she's thinking. Screaming & crying just plays into their hand. It's OK to have your legs trembling, just so long as you voice isn't. I would also recommend some self-defense classes right up to & including CCW.
Now, having said all this, & I hope I've given you each some food for thought, were I a bit closer to Toronto, I'd.... but I digress.
Good luck.
Barbarian has a point because I've often(before caller ID) answered as if they really had messed up calling the house of someone with some authority to do something about the call.
It sucks but there are some very odd people about who like scaring other people and know how to do it,, hugs.
