According to google searches .. a Merchant CAN confiscate a card if there is no signature on the back of it .. and if there is, it better match the signature on the charge slip or they can confiscate that too. In fact, .. they get paid $25 to confiscate such a card and $500 if the card is on a 'fraud list'.

I would suggest get repo and drive the short bus through the front window of the store. That is, I would if I were not nice. But I am nice, so just forget about that idea. I favor the use of cash American Money, but I am very old fashioned, as well as nice.

I NEVER use the credit card thingys at the gas pumps...I always go into the store and pay....not for any other reason than I just have never wanted to.....guess that's a good thing!

There should be a 24/7 number your can call for lost or stolen cards. My bank has one.

In the UK, as your card goes through the scanner, it tells whether it is valid or not. Sometimes, if the card company suspects a card is being used improperly the cashier is told to cut the card in front of the customer.
It is embarrassing, but having been a victim of card fraud, I wish my card had been cut up in front of the person who used mine for a day of spending before my bank phoned me to ask when I last used the card.
They had seen that large purchases were being made in a city I didn't ever use my card in and also a cashier had noticed my card said Nikita on it and it was a guy using it.
I got all the money back but it was a hassle.

God I hate when that kind of thing happens. I had the same situation with my credit card at Walmart a while back. the lady kept insisting it was a debit card and it was a credit card so she wouldn't process it. I had to put a whooole cart of stuff back and go home and get another form of money. My CREDIT card worked a few minutes later at the gas station. argghhhh!

did i tell you about the time they wouldn't let me charge $20 on my credit card? i almost died...

come to find out someone broke into some citibank database and they canceled a whole bunch of accounts - it would have been great if they told me...
